PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida men's soccer team will look to open Gulf South Conference play on the right foot this weekend, playing host to a pair of Tennessee-based squads in Union and Christian Brothers. UWF will play Union on Friday at 5:00 and Christian Brothers at 12:30 on Sunday. UWF women's soccer will play the same schools following the conclusion of the men's contests.
CLOSE CALL
- UWF came awfully close to securing its first win of the season, pushing a Rollins team that was ranked No. 17 nationally in the preseason NSCAA coaches' poll.

Teague Coleman scored his first collegiate goal in the setback, and his 81st minute tally was the key to pushing the contest into overtime.
- With the setback, UWF is 3-4-2 in overtime contests since the start of the 2014 season.
- Rollins solidified the win six minutes into the first overtime period with Matt Volk's first goal of the season.
GSC HISTORY
- The upcoming weekend marks the beginning of Gulf South Conference play... UWF looks to improve upon a sixth place finish in 2015 with a 4-5 record.
- UWF is the winningest program in GSC history, owning a 236-99-34 all-time record and .686 winning percentage while a member of the GSC... UWF is a conference-best 90-29-11 (.734) all-time in GSC play.
- West Florida's 22-7-1 record in GSC Tournament action is the best record in the conference's history... UWF's nine GSC Tournament titles is the most in conference history... The next closest team is Christian Brothers, who has three in its history.
- UWF is the only active GSC program to record a win in the NCAA Division II Tournament.
FRESHMEN FOCUS
- Of the 2970 available minutes of playing time, freshmen and redshirt freshmen have seen 1030 minutes of action so far in three games, taking up 34.6% of playing time this year.
THE JUDY BENSE ERA
- UWF is recently selected Martha Saunders to be the sixth president in UWF's history, which is set to begin in January after Dr. Judy Bense retires. Dr. Bense has been president at UWF since July 2008.
- In 2007, Dr. Bense's predecessor, John Cavanaugh, had served his final year... In that year, UWF went 18-2 and posted a perfect 6-0-0 GSC record.
- In Dr. Bense's tenure as president, the men's soccer team has posted a 93-46-15 record and has averaged 11.6 wins per season.
UNCHARACTERISTIC START
- With a roster featuring 17 newcomers and 13 freshmen, the 2016 UWF men's soccer team has experienced a bit of growing pains to start the season, dropping a 4-2 decision against Tampa and a 3-0 contest against Missouri S&T in the team's opening weekend.
- UWF's backline was a strength for the Argonauts last season, having allowed more than two goals in a single game just once in 2015 (4-3 victory over Rollins).
PRESEASON ALL-GSC
- UWF saw itself near the top of the GSC Preseason poll at No. 2 prior to the start of the season.

Shawn Sanon were all named to the 2016 All-GSC Preseason team.
- UWF's three honorees were tied for the most among any team in the conference.

- UWF is 2-2-2 all-time against Union
- West Florida fell against Union in last year's GSC opener, 2-1... The Argonauts had won back-to-back meetings against the Bulldogs prior to last year's setback.
SCOUTING UNION
- UU is 2-3 on the season, and have won back-to-back games since dropping the first three games of the season.
- Most recently the Bulldogs are coming off a 5-0 win against Kentucky Wesleyan.
- Union is 0-3 on the road this year, and through six games have been outscored 10-7 through its first five games.
SERIES HISTORY VS. CHRISTIAN BROTHERS
- The Argos own a commanding 13-3-1 record against the Bucs in the all-time series.
- UWF owns a six-game winning streak when playing CBU... UWF has not lost to Christian Brothers since Oct. 14, 2011... CBU has not beaten UWF at home since Oct. 11, 2008... That was UWF's only home loss of the 2008 season.
- In a high profile matchup in 2015, No. 17-ranked UWF bested a No. 10-ranked Christian Brothers team 4-1...
Kameron Bethell scored the game's first goal, while
Stephen Enderlin scored his fourth goal of the season to give UWF a 4-0 lead in the 77th minute.
SCOUTING CHRISTIAN BROTHERS
- Christian Brothers will play Spring Hill on Friday before making the one-hour drive to Pensacola for Sunday's contest... This weekend is the first road games of the year for the Bucs.
- CBU most recently defeated No. 23-ranked Lindenwood, 3-2.
- Brendan Bennett paces the Bucs' attack with three goals on the year.

- UWF heads into the 2016 season after reaching its eighth Gulf South Conference Tournament Final in the last 10 years and finishing the season with a 12-6 record.
