Argonauts Win Third in a Row with Victory Over Christian Brothers

Vogler, Ward and Boilesen net goals in the 3-0 shutout

PENSACOLA, Fla. Marjorie Boilesen and Kaley Ward kept their hot streaks going in Sunday's 3-0 win over Christian Brothers, pushing West Florida's record to 4-2 on the year with a 2-0 Gulf South Conference mark. The game was the third consecutive win for UWF and the team's third shutout of the year, with goalkeeper Katelyn Burkhart earning her third win in net.

West Florida's leading points-scorer Boilesen tallied a goal and an assist in the game, giving her 11 points on the year and at least one point in all six games of her college career so far. 2012 NSCAA National Player of the Year Chelsea Palmer was the last Argonaut before Boilesen to pick up at least one assist in five consecutive games, doing so in six in a row as a senior in 2013. Palmer is also the last Argo to score at least one point in six games in a row, as she also earned that distinction in 2013.

Ward now leads UWF with four goals on the season, as she picked up her fourth goal in as many games in the win. She accomplished the same feat as a junior in 2015, with six goals across four games against Lynn, No. 1 Rollins, Tampa and Spring Hill. The Saint Cloud, Florida, native now has 13 goals in her career at UWF.

Emily Vogler started the scoring in the 36th minute on a cross into the 18-yard box from sophomore midfielder Savanna Soares. The goal was Vogler's second of the year and the eighth of her career, now having scored twice each of her four seasons at UWF. Soares picked up her first point of the season with the assist.

Ward's fourth goal of the year came in the 57th minute on a corner kick from Sara Helgadottir that first found the heads of Alisa Festagallo and Boilesen before Ward headed it in herself. Festagallo picked up her first assist of the year, and Boilesen earned her fifth.

Boilesen struck for her own goal just two minutes later, lifting a free kick from 20 yards out from the left side into the upper 90 and well out of reach of CBU keeper Emily Wragg. The freshman's 11 points on the year are good for fourth-most in the GSC.

West Florida outshot CBU 27-5 in the game with 11 shots on target compared to three from the Lady Bucs. Ward led all players with five shots, and she and Sara Helgadottir had two shots on goal apiece.

Sunday's game was between the two strongest programs in GSC women's soccer, as UWF and CBU have combined to make up all six appearances in the NCAA National Final games in league history. With the win, West Florida now has an all-time winning percentage of .899 in GSC play, pacing all conference members with at least five seasons in the league by more than 200 points in that category. With four goals on Friday afternoon, UWF became the first team in GSC history to score 500 goals in league play, and the Argonauts have surrendered only 80 in 20 years against conference opponents.

West Florida continues GSC play in Valdosta, Georgia, and Carrollton, Georgia, next weekend with games against Valdosta State and West Georgia. Links for live stats and video can be found for those games at GoArgos.com.
