Shawn Sanon scored his first career goal with 47 seconds remaining in regulation

BOX SCORE

CLINTON, Miss. – Things looked promising for the University of West Florida men's soccer team in the 90th minute when Shawn Sanon scored a go-ahead goal for a 3-2 lead, but a Mississippi College goal from Ben Roberts with 12 seconds remaining in regulation pushed the contest into overtime and allowed the Choctaws to eventually prevail and earn a hard-fought 4-3 victory.

UWF (1-4, 1-1 GSC) erased MC's 1-0 lead in the 60th minute, as freshman Joshua Sauer netted his first career goal after stealing a Choctaw pass.

West Florida grabbed its first lead of the match in the 75th minute off a Chandler Castleman tally. Kameron Bethell recorded his second assist of the year on the goal as UWF gained a 2-1 advantage.

Mississippi College's (4-1-1, 2-0 GSC) Jorge Delgado, who scored MC's first goal in the 10th minute, scored his second goal of the game and eighth goal of the season in the 81st minute to erase UWF's 2-1 lead.

As time was winding down, Sanon's first career goal that came with 47 seconds remaining looked to be the deciding blow in the contest. Roberts' 25-yard strike that sailed past Phil D'Amico's left hand and into the top left of the net with 12 seconds remaining shifted the momentum in Mississippi College's favor and ultimately pushed the game into overtime.

5:14 into the first overtime period, Delgado completed his hat trick and gave MC a 4-3 victory.

Shots were nearly even for the contest, as MC held a 14-13 advantage. Mississippi College had seven shots on goal in comparison to UWF's five.

D'Amico stopped three shots in the setback. Castleman led UWF with three shots in the contest.

West Florida stays in Mississippi and plays Delta State on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
