Boilesen Nets Hat Trick in 3-0 Win Over West Georgia

Argonauts win fifth in a row, stay perfect in conference

CARROLLTON, Ga. – Freshman Marjorie Boilesen struck again for the University of West Florida women's soccer team on Sunday afternoon, going for a hat trick in the 3-0 UWF win over conference foe West Georgia. With the win, the Argonauts have won five in a row, improved to 6-2 on the year and stayed perfect in the Gulf South Conference.

Boilesen posted her second multi-goal game of the year and has maintained the point-scoring streak to start her season. The Brazilian freshman has tallied at least one point in every game of her collegiate career and leads the conference with six assists and 18 points.

Her hat trick was the first for a UWF freshman since Sara Helgadottir found the net three times in a game in the 2013 season, and Boilesen's six goals give her the most for a UWF freshman since Monica Malavassi matched that total in 2009. The UWF freshman record for goals scored in a single season belongs to Brianna Oeser, who scored 12 in 2001.

Boilesen's first strike came off a free kick taken by UWF's Georgia Bailey, and the freshman found the bottom left corner of the net in the eighth minute to take a 1-0 lead.

Kaley Ward and Sara Helgadottir tallied assists on Boilesen's second goal in the 25th minute. The goal was crossed in from Helgadottir and Ward deflected the ball off UWG keeper Morgan Springer before Boilesen cleaned things up and found the net.

Helgadottir joined Boilesen as the leading goal-assister in the conference with her fifth and sixth helpers on Sunday, picking up her second of the day when Boilesen headed in a corner kick from Helgadottir in the 55th minute.

The Argonauts dominated in every facet of the game on Sunday, outshooting West Georgia 27-2 and not allowing a shot on goal. The team held GSC leading goal-scorer Susana Abundiz to zero shots on the afternoon.

The UWF defense has posted four consecutive shutouts, last allowing a goal on September 11 against Florida Southern. West Florida have outscored the opposition 15-0 in that time.

Following the game, West Florida's offense became the second-best in the GSC in terms of scoring goals, standing just behind Delta State with 2.9 goals per game. The Lady Statesmen have benefited from a 7-0 win against Louisiana College and an 11-1 win over Alcorn State early this season.

West Florida returns home for a midweek game against reigning national runner-up Columbus State on Wednesday, September 28, before hosting North Alabama next Sunday.
