Argonauts Battle to 3-2 Loss Against No. 13 Columbus State

Ward, Boilesen tally goals in the game

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida women's soccer team fell to 6-3 on the season with a tough 3-2 loss against No. 13 Columbus State on Wednesday evening. Forwards Kaley Ward and Marjorie Boilesen kept their hot streaks going in the game, as each scored a goal and Boilesen added an assist.

Ward has now scored in six of the last seven West Florida games, and she has tallied at least a point in each of those seven. Boilesen continued her points streak with the goal and the assist, marking the second time she has accomplished the feat. The Brazilian freshman has assisted on a goal in seven of the team's nine games this year and has multiple goals in the other two.

The senior Ward got the scoring started for UWF, picking up her sixth goal of the season in the 12th minute. She received a through ball from Boilesen, who was credited with her team-high seventh assist of the year on the goal.

Reigning Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year Olivia Jarrell evened the score just 11 minutes later with her fourth netter of the year, receiving assistance from Mandy Janowitz. Janowitz would assist on all three CSU goals in the game.

The teams finished the last 23 minutes of the half scoreless and reached halftime in a 1-1 tie, but it did not take long to break the tie in the second half. At the 55-minute mark, Cassandra Wade got a through ball from Janowitz to score her third goal of the season, and just 24 seconds later, Boilesen added her seventh goal of her freshman campaign on a penalty kick after CSU's Amanda Murphy was called for a foul in the box.

Brooke Nail broke the 2-2 tie for Columbus State in the 66th minute off a corner kick, and CSU held on for the last 24 minutes to get a win.

With her seventh goal of the year, Boilesen has scored more goals than any UWF freshman since Anna Thorsteindottir scored 10 as a rookie in 2003.

UWF was outshot 13-6 in the loss for just the third time this year.

West Florida will face North Alabama on Sunday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. at the UWF Soccer Complex in Pensacola.
