UWF Looks to Extend Win Streak in Tennessee This Weekend

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida volleyball team continues its Gulf South Conference schedule this weekend, playing Christian Brothers in Memphis on Friday night before making the hour-and-a-half long trek to Jackson, Tennessee to play Union on Saturday afternoon.
 
CRAZY EIGHT: UWF's current eight-match win streak is the longest since West Florida won nine-straight towards the end of the 2015 season… During that streak, UWF has a .298 attack percentage and has held its opponents to a .113 success rate… Kathryn Torre is swinging at a .396 attack percentage during the streak, while Rachel Neblett is also a team leader at .360… Monique StCyr has set up the offense to a tune of 10.96 assists per set during the team's last eight games… Tori Martella has recorded 4.86 digs per set during the team's win streak.
 
MARTELLA REPEATS: Senior libero Tori Martella continues to be a staple for the UWF volleyball program, and was recognized for the second time this season as GSC Defensive Player of the Week… It is the fourth time in Martella's career she has won the award… The senior last week recorded at least 20 digs in each of UWF's three wins last week, including a week-high 23 digs against a previously undefeated Shorter team.
 
THE VOLUNTEER STATE: UWF is 12-4 all-time when playing in Tennessee, and currently rides a six-match winning streak when playing in the Volunteer State… West Florida has won 43 of 65 possible sets in Tennessee-based matches.
 
GSC IN 2016: With a 6-0 record in GSC play thus far, UWF has numerous standouts in the early goings of conference action in 2016… West Florida is dominating its conference counterparts, as the team owns a .306 hitting percentage while limiting its opponents to a .086 success rate… UWF also leads the conference in assists per set (15.61), kills per set (16.67) blocks per set (3.17), service aces per set (1.89) and digs per set (19.83)… Rachel Neblett is second in the conference with a .386 hitting percentage in GSC action… Kathryn Torre sits right behind Neblett at No. 3 in the conference with a .381 attack percentage… Katy Kuhlmeier and Corisha Smith also sit inside the GSC's top 10… Smith is third in the conference with 3.50 kills per set in GSC action… Monique StCyr leads all GSC players with 10.90 assists per set in conference play… Tori Martella is first in the conference with 5.00 digs per set against GSC opponents… Neblett and Torre are first and second, respectively, during GSC action in blocks with 1.36 and 1.29.
 
SCOUTING CBU: Christian Brothers is currently 7-4 in 2016 with an even 3-3 record in GSC action in 2016… The Bucs are coming off back-to-back losses for the second time this season, and most recently fell in three sets against No. 24-ranked North Alabama… CBU has a 6-1 record at home this year… Emma Lenoir leads the team with 3.65 kills per set, while setter Jessica Reber leads the team with 8.81 assists per set… Defensively, the Bucs are led by Blyth Clausen who owns a 3.93 digs per set average… UWF is 13-2 all-time against CBU and has not lost to Christian Brothers since Nov. 29, 2012 in the 2012 NCAA South Regional Quarterfinals.
 
SCOUTING UNION: Union is 4-9 on the year and has gotten off to a 1-4 start in GSC play… The Bulldogs are currently on a three-match losing skid, having dropped three consecutive road matches to conference opponents… Union is 1-1 at home this year… Deja Moorer is a main contributor of the Bulldog attack, averaging 2.28 kills per set… Hannah Huguley has 7.09 assists per set thus far in 2016… West Florida is a perfect 8-0 against Union and has won 24 of 26 possible sets in the all-time series.
