LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The 19th-ranked UWF women's basketball team turned in a smothering defensive second-half performance to defeat West Alabama 65-48 on the road at Pruitt Hall Thursday.

UWF (11-3, 6-2 Gulf South) had a strong game from the field, shooting 43 percent, while three Argonauts scoring in double figures. Senior Katie Bobos led all players with 15 points, including nine in the third quarter as the Argos outscored the Tigers 17-9 and extended their lead to double digits where it stayed until the final buzzer.

Junior Toni Brewer notched her 11th double-double with 13 points and 20 rebounds. For Brewer, who came into the contest ranked fifth nationally at 12.1 rebounds per game, it was her second game with at least 20 boards this season.

Sophomore Katie O'Neal made the only two 3-pointers for UWF as she finished with 11 points. Junior Courtney Meyer added eight points, 13 rebounds and four blocks, while senior Alex Coyne handed out eight assists with one turnover in 35 minutes. All four bench players who saw action also scored for the Argos.

UWF had an off-night at the free throw line, making just 9-of-23. The Argos also turned the ball over 16 times, which led to 13 points for the home squad.

"We gave up 23 points in the second quarter and had to buckle down defensively," UWF assistant coach Laquanda Quick said. "I was proud of the girls with the way they adjusted in the second half."

West Alabama (4-11, 3-6) shot just 29.9 percent – its second-lowest effort this season – and managed to make just 6-of-33 for 18.2 percent in the second half.

UWF jumped out to a 21-5 lead in the first quarter, making 10 of its first 15 shots. But as quickly as the lead came, UWA got hot from the floor, shooting 50 percent to trim the UWF lead to 35-31 at the half.

Coming out of the intermission, the Argonauts scored the first seven points to regain control before securing a 51-44 lead entering the fourth. From there, it was a 12-0 run that stretched the lead to 15 and allowed UWF to cruise to its fifth road win of the season. The Tigers were 2-of-17 in the final period.

After playing its last three games on the road, UWF will return home on Saturday to entertain West Georgia (6-6, 5-3) at 2:00 p.m. at the UWF Field House.
