PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF men's basketball will look continue its successful run against a struggling Mississippi College team and Delta State, who currently ranks No. 24 in the latest NABC national rankings.
HOT OVER THE LAST FIVE
- For the first time since 2012-13, UWF has won four GSC games in the span of five contests. UWF's lone setback was a close 66-64 decision at Lee.
- Over that span, UWF is shooting 44.8% as a team and has all five starters averaging at least 10.0 points per game. All players who are averaging at least 15 minutes per game are scoring at least eight points per game.
- West Florida is averaging 11.6 turnovers per game while forcing 14.6 turnovers per game over its last five contests.
- UWF is holding opposing teams to just a 28.6% connection rate from long distance.
JONES HEATING UP
- Since scoring 20 points against then-No. 24 Alabama Huntsville,
Marvin Jones has heat up and proven to be an offensive force for the Argonauts. Jones has averaged 12.8 points per game in his last six games and owns a 39.5% three-point percentage.
- Jones tied the mark for most points in a single game by an Argonaut this year in UWF's 97-89 win against West Georgia with 26 points on a 9-for-17 shooting performance.
RUNNING TO 27
- Faced with a 13-point deficit with 12:13 remaining against West Georiga, the Argos rattled off 27 unanswered points in one of the most impressive runs in recent memory.
- The Argos shot 11-for-15 from the floor during the stretch and had six different players record points.
- UWF held a hot-shooting West Georgia team scoreless for 7:24, forcing the Wolves to go 0-for-9 shooting and commit five turnovers over that span.
- West Florida collected an 80-66 lead at the end of the run and held at least a six-point lead for the remainder of the game before winning 97-89.
BESTING THE REIGNING CHAMPS
- UWF beat the reigning defending GSC Tournament champs for just the second time in the past 10 years after beating West Georgia 97-89.
- The last time UWF beat the defending champs happened in 2014-15, where UWF earned an overtime 79-77 overtime win over North Alabama.
WHAT A START
- With a 9-5 record on the year, UWF has recorded one of its best starts in program history. UWF also started 9-5 in 2011-12 -- a season where UWF finished 19-11 and reached the GSC Tournament semifinals.
- If UWF maintains its current .643 winning percentage, it would be its best since the 2000-01 season.

- West Florida has been particularly strong in the late stages of games, as UWF is 8-0 when leading with five minutes remaining in regulation.

- West Florida owns a 4-2 record at the UWF Field House this season, and owns a +8.7 margin in those contests.
- West Florida is shooting 44.7% in home games, being led
Deangelo Legrier who is converting at an eye-popping 65.1% at the UWF Field House.

Jason Laatsch leads UWF players with 13.5 points per game at the Field House, followed closely by
Austin Somerfield who is pouring in 13.2 points per game at home.
- UWF owns a +4.7 turnover margin and a 1.5 assist-to-turnover ratio in home games.

Austin Somerfield are leading the rebounding efforts at home, averaging 8.0 and 7.8 boards per game, respectively, at the UWF Field House.
- After going 5-7 in home games last year, UWF is just one win shy of its home win total from last season. UWF has seven home games remaining on its schedule heading into the weekend.
ON THE OFFENSIVE GLASS
- UWF is the GSC's best offensive rebounding team, averaging 14.9 offensive boards per game. That avergage is also 11th best in the nation.

Deangelo Legrier is 29th in DII and second in the GSC with 3.43 offensive boards per game.
Austin Somerfield and
Darryl Tucker are tied for sixth in the GSC with 2.79 offensive rebounds per game each.
- West Florida is the only team in the GSC with three players inside the top 20 for offensive rebounding.
TAKING CARE OF THE BALL
- UWF owns the best turnover margin in the conference at 4.1.
Rashaan Benson is leading the way with a 2.41 assist-to-turnover ratio, good for best in the GSC.
- Benson is also first in the GSC with 5.0 assists per game.
- UWF is fourth in the conference with only committing 12.6 turnovers per game.
SUCCESSFUL START
- UWF's 5-0 start allowed for UWF to be one of 15 teams in DII to be undefeated before the Argos suffered its first loss of the season on Dec. 12 against Valdosta State.
PLAYING WITH THE BEST
- Until Dec. 20, the Gulf South Conference was the only men's basketball conference in NCAA Division II where all of its members have overall winning percentages at .500 or better. Mississippi College has now fell below the .500 threshold and is the only team in the league with a sub-.500 record.
- To exemplify the strength of the GSC, the 12 teams combined own a 51-15 (.785) record against non-conference opponents.
- UWF was one of three teams (Shorter, Mississippi College) to post undefeated records against early-season non-conference opponents. With Shorter and MC each dropping their first conference game of the season, UWF was the last remaining undefeated team in the conference.
