PENSACOLA, Fla. – The 14th-ranked UWF women's basketball team battled through a poor shooting night and scored the final 14 points of the game to hold off West Alabama, 63-51, at the UWF Field House Thursday.

UWF (16-3, 11-2 Gulf South) shot a season-low 28 percent but was 26-of-29 at the free throw line as it moved its win streak to six for its longest since opening the year with five-straight. The Argonauts also held a 50-39 rebounding advantage.

Senior Alex Coyne led four players in double figures as she finished with 17 points, six assists and two steals. She moved into a tie for third on the UWF career assist chart with 302.

Junior Shami Goodman had 13 off the bench, while senior Katie Bobos and junior Toni Brewer each registered double-doubles. Bobos had 13 points and 19 boards with Brewer going for 12 and 13.

West Alabama (6-13, 3-9) got 20 points and six rebounds from Ariel Wilson. The Tigers shot 31 percent – their third-lowest performance of the year – and committed 15 turnovers.

The Argonauts shot just 2-for-15 to open the game and fell behind 20-8 early in the second quarter, only to trim the deficit to 26-24 at the half.

UWF went up by six midway through the third before ending the frame tied at 38. The fourth quarter had six lead changes with the final coming when Coyne scored four-consecutive for the Argos. Trailing 51-49 with 3:25 to play, Coyne drove down the lane and tied it with a layup. She followed on the next possession with a pair of free throws to put UWF ahead 53-51 with 2:38 remaining. The Tigers never scored again, missing their final six shots while the Argos made 10-of-10 free throws for the 14-0 run over the final 3:13.

UWF will now play its next three on the road, beginning Saturday afternoon at West Georgia (7-9, 6-6). Tip-off at The Coliseum is set for 2:00 p.m. Eastern time.
