PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Argos ran their win streak to ten straight with a 3-0 win over West Georgia Tuesday at the UWF Field House. Jordyn Poppen led UWF (13-4, 5-0 GSC) with 13 kills and a .500 hitting percentage. UWF has won 15 of 16 sets so far in conference play. The victory was the program's 64th in a row at home over a conference opponent.
UWF took the first set 25-7 behind three kills by Poppen and three each from Phoebe Hozeska and Taylor Hall. Nadine Williams picked up two service aces. Logan Kael led the team defensively with five digs. The team hit .435 for the set.
West Georgia tallied the first two points of the second set before a run by UWF flipped the script to 7-2. The Argos were led in the second set by Poppen, who tallied seven kills. Williams added four kills and Mackenzie Chrisman added three of her own. Kael chipped in four more digs as the Argos took the second 25-14.
UWF led throughout the third set, with Chrisman picking up four kills to lead the way to a 25-15 finale victory. The Argos finished the evening strong with a team hitting percentage of .314. Poppen registered five kills, as did Kael in the third. Poppen capped her night with three more kills in the third.
The Argos had five total blocks in the match, with Hozeska picking up three personally. UWF hit .330 for the match. Hall finished with seven kills, as did Chrisman. Monique StCyr finished with 28 assists to lead UWF.
The Argos next take on Union (11-7, 2-4 GSC) in Jackson, Tennessee October 6 at 6 pm. The team will remain on the road for a match at Christian Brothers (8-10, 3-3 GSC) in Memphis October 7 at 1 pm. The team returns home October 10 vs. North Alabama.
