Argos Notch Fourth Straight Sweep, Eleventh Straight Win

UWF downs Union behind eight kills from Poppen, five aces from Neblett

JACKSON, Tenn. UWF volleyball (14-4, 6-0 GSC) notched its fourth straight sweep and eleventh straight victory 3-0 at Union (Tenn.) Friday. Jordyn Poppen once again led UWF with eight kills. The sophomore has now led the squad in kills in two straight matches. Rachel Neblett matched her career-best with five service aces. 
 
UWF took the first set behind three kills by and two aces from senior star Rachel Neblett, who hit a 1.000 for the set. Nadine Williams added two kills of her own. Poppen and Monique StCyr each registered one kill in the opening set. The Argos hit .316 in the first, racing out to a 15-7 lead before swelling the lead as large as 13. Mackenzie Chrisman put the exclamation point on the impressive opener to finish the set at 25-13.
 
Union initially responded strongly in the second, tallying the first three points of the set before UWF caught up and gained the lead at 8-7. The Argos showed no mercy on the Lady Bulldogs and won 16 out of the next 23 point. Poppen picked up 5 kills to fuel the late, relentless surge.
 
West Florida built a 6-1 lead in the third set and elevated the lead as high as 10 before cruising to a 25-16 victory. StCyr starred with four kills and eight assists. She was aided by three kills each from Williams and Taylor Hall.
 
West Florida hit .312 as a team in the victory against Union's 0.071, and had 36 total kills for the match. The Argos forced 22 Bulldog errors while committing just 12. The Argos had six service aces and registered eight blocks. Neblett hit .500 for the match and picked up six kills and five service aces to match a career high. Williams finished with seven kills and joined Neblett, StCyr, and Poppen as the four Argos who hit at least .500 for the match. StCyr hit a perfect 1.000 while picking up 22 assists.

The Argos remain in first place in the GSC, one win ahead of North Alabama. UWF takes on Christian Brothers (8-10, 3-3 GSC) in Memphis tomorrow at 1 pm. The team returns home October 10 vs. North Alabama.
