Argos Return Home To Face Valdosta State Tuesday

UWF squares off vs. the Blazers after back-to-back sweeps over the weekend

PENSACOLA, Fla. – UWF volleyball (22-6, 12-0 GSC) returns home tomorrow for a Halloween battle vs. Valdosta State (10-14, 5-7). The 6:00 p.m. contest will be a rematch of the teams' October 17 meeting in Valdosta, which UWF won 3-2. The No. 22 Argos are coming off back-to-back sweeps over the weekend at Shorter and Lee.

WEEKEND SWEEPS

* UWF Volleyball earned a 3-0 victory to start the weekend at Shorter Friday evening. Rachel Neblett enjoyed an outstanding evening, posting 14 kills and two service aces while hitting .632. Jordyn Poppen added ten kills, and Monique StCyr registered 39 assists, nine digs and one service ace as the No. 22 Argos powered past the Lady Hawks.

* UWF volleyball swept Lee University (16-7, 7-4 GSC) Saturday afternoon. The team cruised to a 3-0 victory behind 14 kills and nine digs from Rachel Neblett and 13 kills from Jordyn Poppen. The win was the fifth straight for No. 22 UWF and helped the team to improve to 8-0 in away matches this year.

LAST TIME VS. VALDOSTA STATE

* Rachel Neblett finished with one of her best matches of the season, posting 19 kills, 6 digs and 5 blocks to help the Argos down Valdosta 3-2, move to 6-0 on the road this season and stay perfect in conference play.

* Head coach Melissa Wolter earned her 400th career victory as the Argos downed Valdosta State 3-2 on the road October 17. The career milestone is another in the impressive career of Melissa Wolter, who has totaled 364 of her 400 career wins at UWF. She has won at least ten matches in 16 of her 18 seasons as a head coach and has clinched her 13th straight year of at least 20 wins.

* Wolter earned another milestone earlier this season, notching her 350th win at UWF September 9th during the team's participation in the Colorado Premier Challenge.

CURRENT GSC LEADERS

* Rachel Neblett ranks second in the GSC with a .414 hitting percentage. Caleigh Morrison ranks eighth in the conference with a .282 hitting percentage. Jordyn Poppen ranks ninth with a .281 hitting percentage.

* In the GSC, Neblett ranks sixth with 3.34 kills per set. Neblett is fourth with 0.45 service aces per set. She is second with 4.35 points per set.

* Monique StCyr ranks second in the GSC with 9.58 assists per set.

* In the GSC, Morrison ranks fifth with 1.01 blocks per set. Neblett ranks sixth with 0.95 blocks per set.

* Logan Kael is tied for eighth in the GSC in digs with 3.88 per set.

* UWF leads the GSC with a .256 hitting percentage. The Argos lead the conference with 14.10 kills per set and 0.83 opponent service aces per set. The team leads the conference in blocks with 2.13 per set. The team is second in the GSC with 13.21 assists per set.

GSC DOMINANCE

* UWF currently sits in first place in the GSC, two games ahead of North Alabama and 2.5 games ahead of West Alabama.

* Since Melissa Wolter took over the UWF volleyball program prior to the 2003 season, West Florida has been nearly unstoppable in GSC play, owning a 180-24 record. Last year the Argonauts went 17-3 in GSC action and 10-0 at home. UWF currently has a 67-match winning streak during regular season home games against conference opponents. The last loss for UWF in a GSC regular season home game came against North Alabama on October 24, 2009.

* UWF won six consecutive GSC Championships from 2008-2013. UWF currently owns the longest active streak of 20-win seasons in the GSC, which currently stands at 13 (not including 2004 season shortened by Hurricane Ivan). Valdosta State and North Alabama are tied for the second longest active streak of 20-win seasons in the GSC at three. UWF has reached 11 consecutive NCAA South Regional Tournaments.

STCYR PURSUES SERVICE ACES RECORD

* Monique StCyr has posted 24 service aces in the 2017 season, drawing her within six of the current all-time career record-holder Jessica Bragion, who accumulated 165 from 2002-2005. StCyr is already the all-time career assists leader at UWF, checking in with 3,337 to begin the year and adding 939 this season. She is the first Argo to eclipse 4,000 assists in a career.
