THE COACHES
* UWF coach Pete Shinnick was hired as the first coach in program history on Feb. 6, 2014. He has a 111-53 career record in 15-plus years, which includes a 50-24 mark at UNC Pembroke from 2007-13 and 53-22 at Azusa Pacific from 1999-05.
* Mississippi College Coach John Bland: is in his fourth season at MC with a 6-29 record. He is in his 13th season as a head coach, compiling an 81-55 mark. He was 5-5 at Southern Ark. in 2000 and 70-21 in eight years at the Univ. of the Cumberlands (Williamsburg, Ky.). He led the Patriots to the 2013 NAIA title game with a 13-1 record. He also was the QB coach at Rice from 2001-05.
ABOUT UWF
UWF is 3-1 on the season following last week's thrilling, 23-21 road win over Florida Tech in the Coastal Classic. The Argonauts won the game on the final play, as sophomore Austin Williams kicked a school-record 44-yard field just inside the right upright as time expired to give the Blue & Green the victory.
Sophomore Mike Beaudry has completed just over 50 percent of his passes and is averaging 208 yards per game. He also has seven passing touchdowns and three interceptions.
Sophomore Chris Schwarz has steadily improved from last season to game four of 2017. He is coming off a career-high 75-yard game at FIT and has 217 yards on the ground over 61 carries with three touchdowns. As a team, UWF is posting 94 yards per game on the ground with four scoring plays.
Graduate transfer Josh Marshall had a career-high 15 tackles last Saturday and leads the team with 33 tackles on the season, to go along with two interceptions and a pass break-up. Seniors Reggie Barnes and Sam Adams, and sophomore Josh Smiley have 27 stops apiece. Barnes and Smiley have combined for four sacks. UWF has 11 team sacks and ranks fourth in the GSC.
ABOUT MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE
The Choctaws rank eighth in the conference in total offense with 273.6 yards per game and eighth in total defense, surrendering 402.8 yards per game.
Junior quarterback Ty Jobe leads the team with three touchdowns - 2 passing and 1 rushing - on the year and averages 114 passing yards per contest.
Sophomore Nathan Faciane leads the team in catches (14) and receiving yards (276). He currently ranks eighth in the league in yards per reception (19.7) and receiving yards per game (55.2). he does have the longest reception in the league this season, hauling in an 87-yarder versus West Alabama.
Senior Chris Manning leads a group of five players with at least 20 tackles on the year. He has 29 total stops with an interception and a pass break-up. Junior Marc Toussant is third in the GSC with a pair of forced fumbles.
Freshman return specialist Darius Young has 15 kickoff returns for 452 yards, the most in the GSC and 9th-most in Division II. His 30.1 yards per return is the second-best mark in the league through five weeks.
UWF-MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE SERIES HISTORY
Led by another strong offensive performance and a stingy first-half defense, the University of West Florida improved to 4-2 on the season after a 42-28 victory over Mississippi College.
The receiving trio of Antoine Griffin, Ishmel Morrow and Caleb Robinson helped quarterback Kaleb Nobles go 22-for-32 passing with 282 yards and four touchdowns. Griffin, Morrow and Robinson each posted at least 60 yards receiving, with Griffin leading the way with eight receptions for 108 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively, Trent Archie led the way with seven solo tackles and his team-leading third interception of the season. UWF limited MC to 186 yards of offense in the first half, and posted five tackles for a loss and two sacks in the contest.
WILLIAMS REPEATS AS GSC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
UWF sophomore Austin Williams picked up his second-consecutive Gulf South Conference Special Teams Player of the Week honor on Monday, following his outstanding performance in the win at Florida Tech.
Williams made three field goals, including the game-winner as time expired in the Argonauts' 23-21 road win that kept the Coastal Classic Trophy in Northwest Florida. His field goals went for 43 and 25 yards in the second quarter, before the school-record 44-yarder to end the game.
He was equally impressive on kickoffs and averaged a season-best 65.0 yards per kick average with a season-high four touchbacks in five kicks.
The Phelan, California native leads the GSC with eight field goals this season and is the only player with any makes longer than 39 yards – and he has three of them (3-of-3). He ranks third in the GSC with 35 points.
UWF 4-3 ALL-TIME IN BLUE WAHOOS STADIUM
UWF has played well at home in seven games since starting the program last season, going 4-3 entering tonight's contest. The squad has averaged 30.4 points per game when 'balling by the bay.'
The program won its first three games in the stadium in 2016 and is now 2-0 in home openers. The Argos are also 3-1 in night games at BWS.
BARNES, DUNCOMBE & GRIFFIN NAMED TO GSC PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
A year after winning five games and finishing in sixth place in the Gulf South Conference in its first-ever season, the UWF football team was picked seventh in the 2017 Preseason Coaches Poll as announced by the league office in July.
Additionally, senior Reggie Barnes, sophomore Andre Duncombe and junior Antoine Griffinwere selected to the preseason all-GSC team by the league's nine head coaches. Barnes and Duncombe were among the four linebackers on the team, while Griffin was one of two return specialists chosen.
Barnes ranked third on the team with 67 tackles and added six tackles for loss, six QB hurries and a pass break-up. Duncombe making 51 tackles and was second on the team with 12.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks a year ago. Griffin was a standout receiver for the Argos, finishing with 560 yards on 43 receptions and seven touchdowns. He also returned 18 punts for a 13.33 yard average and eight kickoffs for a 20.5 yard average.
NORTHWEST FLORIDA PLAYERS MAKE UP NEARLY 25 PERCENT OF THE 2017 ROSTER
The influx of local talent has been more evident this season, with 23 players out of Northwest Florida's six county region from Escambia to Washington and Bay. An additional six student-athletes are within a 2-hour drive of Pensacola.

UWF has three members of its team who earned their bachelor's degrees in 2017. K Luke Jackson graduated from Missouri with a degree in sports administration; DB Josh Marshall graduated from Troy with a criminal justice degree; and DB Jalen Spencer graduated from South Florida.
