Day of Service: Argos Volunteer At Ronald McDonald House Charities

UWF performs community service in week leading up to GSC Tournament

PENSACOLA, Fla. – UWF volleyball will host the GSC Tournament this weekend in the UWF Field House. The week of preparation has included more than just scouting reports and practice though. The team took time out of its busy schedule Monday for a day of service at the Ronald McDonald House of Northwest Florida.

"We really enjoyed volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House and learning more about the organization," said head coach Melissa Wolter. "I have a special place in my heart for them because they take care of the families of children that are seriously ill or injured."

Wolter noted that freshman Kingsley Erps has been particularly involved with the organization, volunteering with the Ronald McDonald House over the summer. The team's tasks during the trip included cleaning the house and completing a daily list of chores for the residents.

"This is a great time of the year to remind our players that there's more to life than just volleyball," said Wolter.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Florida first opened its doors in Pensacola. According to its website, "it has served as a home-away-from-home and source of respite and resources for more than 20,000 adults and children."

The Argos enjoy a first round bye through the GSC Tournament, which begins at 4:00 p.m. today in the UWF Field House.  The team will begin its play in the tournament tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. vs. the winner of today's Shorter/Alabama Huntsville first round matchup. The GSC Tournament championship will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
