PENSACOLA, Fla. – A 4-1 win over Christian Brothers on Tuesday night pushed the University of West Florida women's soccer team into the semifinal round of the Gulf South Conference Championships, where the Argonauts will face 2-seed Mississippi College at 5 pm on Friday in Montgomery, Alabama. UWF last faced MC on September 22, when the Choctaws managed to get the better of West Florida with a 1-0 win.

This is the second time the teams have faced off in the GSC Tournament, as West Florida won 2-0 in the 2016 conference title match.

The remainder of the GSC Championships will be held at the Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex. Single-game tickets can be purchased for $5 or a tournament pass can be purchased for $8.

All semifinal and final round matches will have a live video stream and can also be followed with live stats. The links for those can be found at GoArgos.com, at the top of this page, or on the GSC Championships Homepage.

ABOUT MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE
* The Lady Choctaws enter the GSC Tournament as the 2-seed after going 12-2 in conference play during the regular season. MC found the net 33 times in those 14 GSC contests, allowing just 9 goals -- tied for the second-fewest in the conference with West Florida.
* After a strong finish to the regular season, MC earned the No. 11 spot in the final United Soccer Coaches poll of the year, and the team is ranked second in the South Region.
* Like UWF, three Lady Choctaws earned a spot on this year's All-GSC teams. To little surprise, all three are defensive specialists. Caitlin Hayes and keeper Andrea McDonald took first-team spots, and Scarlett Hodges was named to the second team.
* The regular-season matchup was a major defensive battle, with the only goal coming from MC's Katie Taylor in the 86th minute.

DOMINATING THE TOURNEY
* The GSC Tournament has historically belonged to UWF, with the Argonauts leading all conference programs with an appearance in 21 of 22 conference tournaments, 29 wins, a .756 winning percentage, 17 appearances in the final, and 10 titles.
* It comes as little surprise that an Argonaut has been the tournament's Most Outstanding Player in 11 of the 21 tournaments, which is by far the most for any school. In all, UWF has had 82 student-athletes -- an average of nearly 4 players per year -- earn a spot on the All-Tournament team in the conference's 21 years of tourney action. This, too, is a conference-best.
* As a final note, UWF has outscored its opposition 105-37 in GSC Tournament action.

THE REGIONAL RANKINGS
* UWF held steady at No. 3 in the South Region rankings on Wednesday, after being ranked No. 5 in the initial regional rankings two weeks ago.
* Several familiar faces return to the top eight in the region, with Nova Southeastern and Mississippi College staying at Nos. 1 and 2 after each going 2-0 over last weekend. North Alabama is ranked fourth, Barry is ranked fifth and Lee came in at No. 5. Florida Southern and Florida Tech round out the rankings at 7 and 8.
* The top six teams in the regional rankings at the end of the season advance to the NCAA Tournament, where the 1 and 2 seeds in each of the country's eight regions serve as a host for the first two rounds.

SINCE WE LAST LOST
* It has been a busy few weeks since West Florida last lost a match, winning everything since October 11 against Montevallo. Here's a quick look at some happenings in Argonaut athletics since then.
* Jacob Huizinga was named the Gulf South Conference Men's Golfer of the Month on October 6 after winning the Griffin Invitational for his first collegiate victory. He repeated in November and Paloma Vaccaro was the top women's golfer in the conference for the month after picking up two wins.
* Like women's soccer, volleyball has been on a tear lately, going 9-2 since October 7 and holding a perfect 13-0 record in conference play. The team can clinch a regular-season conference title with a win on Friday.
