MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The 20th-ranked UWF volleyball team was nearly flawless in 3-0 win at Auburn-Montgomery Friday night as they clinched the Gulf South Conference regular-season title. The Argonauts clinched the crown with a 25-13, 25-14, 25-13 decision at the AUM Athletics Complex.
The title is UWF's tenth in the GSC record book, with all 10 coming in the last 11 seasons.
Sophomore Jordyn Poppen had nine kills while junior Nadine Williams registered eight for UWF (24-6, 14-0 GSC). Williams and freshman Logan Kael lead the team with 13 digs each.
On offense, the Argos hit .360 with 50 kills on 100 swings with the defense putting down six blocks and 50 digs. It marked the sixth time this season and fourth-consecutive contest with at least 50 digs in a 3-set match.
Senior Monique StCyr and sophomore Brogan Wallin combined for 36 of the team's 45 assists.
Iin the first set, UWF's defense was on fire, finishing with 22 digs, three blocks while holding AUM to a .000 hitting pct. The second set saw the Argos fall behind 5-2 before a 7-0 run shifted the momentum into UWF's favor. The Warhawks never got closer than two points the remainder of the set before the Argos closed it out on another 7-0 skein. In the third, UWF again fell behind early, this time by a 5-3 margin. But three-consecutive kills from senior Rachel Neblett - who finished with six in the third -  sparked a 7-2 run as UWF took control again and never trailed the remainder of the match, closing it out with a 9-4 run.
AUM (9-18, 1-12) hit just .045 and was led by Khelea Roberts' seven kills and five blocks. The Warhawks finished with a match-high seven blocks.
By virtue of winning the regular-season, UWF has earned the right to host to GSC Tournament, Nov. 17-19. But first, the squad will return home for the final two regular-season matches, next Friday and Saturday. Friday's Senior Day match will be against Lee at 5:00 p.m. at the UWF Field House, with Saturday's Parents Day contest versus Shorter at 1 p.m.
