PENSACOLA, Fla. – Robert Lopez and Justin Ambrosino each posted a 2-for-4 day at the plate with a home run and four RBI while six different UWF pitchers combined for only two hits allowed as the UWF baseball team topped Auburn Montgomery 8-0 at Jim Spooner Field on Wednesday evening.

"We really pitched a lot better tonight," said head coach Mike Jeffcoat. "We had a plan to get all six of those guys to get in there. We've been talking about focusing on the next pitch and focusing on the process of what we do and what we can control."

The Argos were held without a hit for the first three innings of the ballgame, but after Nic Strasser led off the fourth with a walk, Ambrosino provided a loud first hit of the game for UWF with a no-doubt, two-run home run to left-center field to take a 2-0 lead.

Later in the inning, Lopez recorded his first RBI of the game with a hard-hit double to left center, scoring Matt Sullivan who singled in the prior at bat.

Lopez later followed that with his first home run of the year – a three-run shot onto the party deck in left field – to break it open for the Argonauts at 6-0 in the sixth inning.

Ambrosino brought home Casey Crawford and Brandon Harmon in the seventh with a triple to centerfield, making the score its final 8-0.

Jeffcoat utilized a pitcher-by-committee strategy for the Argos' midweek contest against AUM and all six pitchers performed well in their respective outings against the Warhawks.

Starter Jared Middleton, freshman Trace Penton and senior Brian Browning all threw two scoreless innings. Penton earned his first collegiate win with two hitless innings with two strikeouts.

J.A. Harville, Jarrod Petree and Steve McClellan all pitched an inning each. Petree and McClellan both recorded a pair of strikeouts and did not allow a hit.

West Florida has now won four of its last five and will enter Gulf South Conference play this Saturday with a doubleheader against Mississippi College beginning at 1:00 p.m.
