No. 23 UWF Runs Past North Alabama For 20th Victory

UWF shot 47 percent and scored 40 points in the paint

FLORENCE, Ala. – Toni Brewer scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the 23rd-ranked UWF women's basketball team had its best shooting game in six weeks in defeating North Alabama, 75-51, at Flowers Hall Thursday night.
 
UWF (20-5, 15-4 Gulf South) reached the 20-win mark for the second time in three seasons and the sixth time in program history. It also was the team's ninth road win while handing UNA just its second loss in 14 home contests.
 
The Argos also clinched a GSC Quarterfinal home game on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at the UWF Field House.
 
Brewer's effort was her 15th double-double of the year and came on 10-of-19 shooting. Katie Bobos also went for a double-double, finishing with 14 and 14, with 12 and 10 coming in the second half.
 
The Argonauts shot 47 percent from the floor and scored 40 points in the paint while holding a 48-37 edge on the glass. UWF also altered six UNA shots with Courtney Meyer swatting six by herself.
 
Katie O'Neal made three 3-pointers and finished with 14 points for her second-consecutive game in double-figures.
 
UNA (17-8, 11-8) shot just 29 percent and was held to just 4-of-28 from outside, including 0-of-11 in the second half. Ivy Wallen, who led the Lions with 12 points, was held nine points below her GSC-leading average and to her fourth-fewest points in a game this season.
 
UWF came out and scored the first nine points in the game to set the tone and take a 19-8 lead at the end fo the quarter. The Lions used a 10-0 run of their own to start the second quarter before the Argos countered with a 11-0 skein to eventually take a 35-28 lead into the locker room.
 
The visitors didn't let up, opening the second half with an 11-0 stretch to secure a 46-28 edge. The UWF lead never got below 12 and was extended to 27 late in the fourth on an 11-1 run. 
 
UWF will head to Huntsville, Ala. for a Saturday afternoon contest at UAH (5-19, 4-15). Tipoff at Spragins Hall is set for 2:00 p.m.
