HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The 23rd-ranked UWF women's basketball team got 24 points from its bench and used a 27-7 outburst over the final 12 minutes to defeat Alabama-Huntsville, 67-54, Saturday and clinch at least a share of the Gulf South Conference regular-season title.

UWF (21-5, 16-4) tied the program record with its 16th league win and extended its GSC lead to two games with two contests remaining.

The Argos shot 36 percent but had 18 second chance points, including 13 in the second half.

Courtney Meyer each finished with nine points and 10 rebounds.

UWF held a 48-41 rebounding edge and turned the ball over just eight times – one shy of its season low – including just twice in the second half.

"Our team showed some great poise and confidence after falling behind late in the third quarter," UWF head coach
Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "We battled possession after possession and the fourth quarter really showed our tenacity for finishing the game.

"We had a great effort from our bench. Imani (Mulmore) and Shami (Goodman) were solid off the bench and gave us a great boost."

The duo combined for 13 points and five rebounds in 10 minutes over the third and fourth quarters.

The Argonauts trailed 35-31 at halftime and 47-38 with 2:20 remaining in the third quarter. But they closed the period on an 8-1 run and made it a 24-3 stretch with 90 seconds to play in the game. UAH was held to 2-for-14 shooting and eight turnovers in the fourth quarter while scoring just six points.

UAH (5-20, 4-16) was led by Caroline Dodd who ended with a game-high 19 points. Chandler Elder had 10 points and eight rebounds.

UWF can clinch its first outright GSC regular-season title with a win in either of its two remaining contests – Thursday versus Lee at 5:30 p.m. or Saturday against Shorter at 2:00 p.m. Both games will be played at the UWF Field House.
