PENSACOLA, Fla. – Katie Bobos posted a double-double and Shami Goodman had 19 points off the bench to lift 20th-ranked UWF to a 74-69 win over Lee to clinch the first regular-season conference championship in program history at the UWF Field House Thursday.

UWF improved to 22-5 overall and set the school record for conference wins in a season with a 17-4 Gulf South Conference mark. The Argos recorded their tenth home victory for the 11th time in school history and the third time in the last five years.

The title was the first overall championship to go along with three GSC East Division crowns in 1998, 1999 and 2006.

"It has been a long journey (this season)," said head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton. "We've been going at this for seven months since our foreign trip in August. Our kids were so energized and fired-up and ready tonight. I was so impressed with the way they played the game and put up a tremendous effort at both ends of the floor."

Goodman's 19 marked her fifth double-figure game in the last six outings. She had 12 points on 3-of-4 shooting and a pair of 3-pointers in the second half. Bobos' 15 points and 10 rebounds were her 15th double-double of the season.

Toni Brewer was 5-of-8 from the floor for 11 points and also secured eight rebounds. Katie O'Neal made three 3-pointers and also went for double figures with 11 points. Alex Coyne dished out nine assists while notching eight points.

The Argonauts never trailed in the game and jumped out to a 14-4 lead midway through the first quarter. A 10-point advantage at the quarter break ballooned to 36-16 three minutes into the second thanks to a 12-2 run. UWF led 41-32 at the half.

UWF kept the margin between five and 13 points in the third and withstood a Lee rally in the fourth. The Lady Flames scored the first six in the final period to trim the margin to 54-53. But the Argos scored four-consecutive and 10 of the next 14 to make it a 64-57 cushion. Lee continued to push but never had the ball with a chance to get closer than three the rest of the way.

UWF snapped a two-game losing streak to Lee. Entering Thursday's game, the last four games between the teams had been decided by no more than four points with two of those going into double-overtime.

UWF will close out the regular-season on Saturday against Shorter (8-18, 7-14). Tip-ff at the UWF Field House is set for 2:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on the UWF Sports Network WPNN 103.7 FM/790 AM. The team's two seniors – Bobos and Coyne – will be honored prior to the game.
