PENSACOLA, Fla.  – Marvin Jones and Rashaan Benson totaled 28 and 20 points respectively to pace the UWF men's basketball team offense in a 90-81 victory over Lee at the UWF Field House on Thursday night.

With the win, the Argos extend its home winning streak to eight to continue the team's longest home winning streak since the 2003-04 season. UWF will have an opportunity for its first 20-win season since 1997-98 this Saturday against Shorter in its regular-season finale.

"It was nice to have a lot of different guys making shots," said head coach Jeff Burkhamer, who earned his 399th win during his head coaching career in Thursday's victory. "We had a lot of different guys do a lot of good, different things. Lee was hard to play against and I thought switching to zone bothered them a bit."

Lee (11-16, 7-14 GSC) and UWF went back-and-forth to start the contest, but after UWF was able to gain an 11-9 lead after a Jones triple, the Argos never lost grip of that lead for the remaining 35 minutes.

The Flames provided the Argos with a second-half scare, cutting the Argos lead to just one with 7:25 after a Rico Overall jumper. Jones then took over on offense, hitting a pair of treys within a minute and a half of each other to lead the Argos a nine-point lead.

The Argonaut offense pounded its chest early in the contest, going an eye-popping 8-of-11 from three-point range to start the contest.  The Argos shot 53 percent from the floor in the first half and went 7-of-8 from the free-throw line in that span.

Jones, who has now scored 28 points in each of his last two games, went 10-of-15 from the field and 5-for-8 from distance. Jones is the first UWF player this year to post 25-plus points in back-to-back contests.

UWF (19-8, 13-8 GSC) had Deangelo Legrier and Moter Deng compliment Jones' and Benson's scoring performances with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Deng recorded his first double double of the season after grabbing a season-high 10 boards. Benson's six assist led all players in the contest.

UWF and Shorter will tipoff at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. UWF will honor seniors Deangelo Legrier, Jason Laatsch and Austin Somerfield for Senior Day during pregame.
