CLINTON, Miss. – The UWF men's basketball team faced a 13-point, 24-17 deficit against Mississippi College with 8:47 left in the first half, but the Argonauts rallied to trail by only five at halftime and used 11 second-half points from Deangelo Legrier to help knock off Mississippi College, 62-59.

UWF now stands at 14-7 overall and 9-7 in the GSC. Mississippi College falls to 1-14 in the GSC with a 4-15 mark for its 2016-17 campaign.

"We didn't come out with the energy I wanted," stated head coach Jeff Burkhamer. "We did a of a better job with guarding towards the end of the first half. Then in the second half, we were able to make key free throws and make the plays we needed to in order to win."

With his 129th career three-pointer 2:32 into the second half, Jason Laatsch etched his name atop the UWF record books, setting a new school record for career three pointers. With two treys on the day, Laatsch has 130 for his career on 365 attempts. Laatsch is shooting 40 percent from distance this year and 35.6 percent for his career – good for 10th best in the Argonaut record books. The senior's 48 three-pointers this year are a single-season career high for the Birmingham native.

"We are extremely happy and excited for Jason to break that record," Burkhamer said. "He's worked so hard and he's so important for the growth of our program and the change of our culture. In addition, a lot of those threes have been really big shots for us this year. He's exactly what you want in a student-athlete."

"It means a lot. Being a three-point shooter I feel like it's a good indication that I'm doing my job," Laatsch said. "I broke my shooting wrist my sophomore year, and it took a lot of hard work and repetition to get my shot back. This record feels like all that work has all paid off."

The Argos had three scorers in double figures, including Darryl Tucker who had a game-high 15 points. Legrier posted 14 points with a game-high nine rebounds, while Rashaan Benson turned in 12 points. Laatsch stuffed the box score in multiple ways, scoring six points with a career-high eight rebounds and a team-high four assists.

Heading into the break down by five, UWF used a 13-2 run after MC extended its lead to 34-27 on a Davy Fisher jumper to take a 40-36 lead. The run included four points from Legrier and Laatsch's record-setting triple.

Mississippi College regained a 41-40 advantage with 11:50 to go, but Laatsch's second three-pointer of the day gave the Argonauts a lead it would not surrender. UWF clamped down for the remaining 11:32, and went 5-for-5 on its final five shots from the charity stripe to help solidify the squad's third one-possession win of the season.

The Argos return home and play a pair of Tennessee-based opponents this weekend. UWF will host Christian Brothers on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., before entertaining Union on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
