PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 1 ranked UWF men's tennis team and the No. 6 ranked UWF women's squad both continued their winning ways, claiming wins over North Alabama at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex Monday.

The men's team got things started with a 9-0 shutout, improving to 17-1 overall and 6-0 in Gulf South Conference play. When the women's match concluded in the late afternoon, the Argonauts had moved their record to 14-5 overall and 6-0 in league play, while securing their 74th-consecutive win over a GSC opponent.

The men's team swept through doubles, earning wins from the pairings of Pedro Dumont and Alfonso Castellano at No. 1, Gabriel Dias and Pedro Roese at No. 2 and Warren Kuhn and Pablo Tellez at No. 3.

In singles play, Dumont claimed a win at No. 2 before Castellano clinched the match at No. 4 with the fifth team point. From there, Kuhn, Sebastian Sanchez, Lucas Sanchez and Dias were all victorious for the Argos. Dias and Sebastian Sanchez each needed a pro-set tiebreaker after they split sets.

On the women's side, it was the Argonauts who swept through doubles play for the second-consecutive match and sixth time this season. The tandems of
Paula Lopez and
Paula Coyos at No. 1,
Heather Mixon and
Jordana Lujan at No. 2 and
Diana Vlad and
Valeria Mantilla at No. 3 pushed UWF towards its 11th win over a region opponent in 2017.

When play moved to the singles courts, the 34th-ranked Lopez made quick work of her opponent at the top spot before Mantilla's straight-set victory at No. 5 secured the 'W' for the Blue and Green. Coyos, Mixon and
Samantha Echevarria also earned wins for UWF.

The UWF men will return to action on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. against 12th-ranked UC San Diego (8-8), while the Argo women will be off until Friday morning at 8:00 a.m. when they battle the ninth-ranked Tritons (14-1). Both UWF squads will also face Mississippi College on Friday afternoon. All matches will be held at the Carson Tennis Complex on campus with free admission.
