FLORENCE, Ala. –
Imani Mulmore had a team-high 12 points to lead the UWF women's basketball team but the Argos fell to 12th-ranked North Alabama, 83-51, at Flowers Hall on Thursday.
Already shorthanded with leading scorer
Halee Nieman out with an injury, UWF found itself in a 5-0 hole early. After trimming the deficit to 11-5 with 2:15 left in the first, UNA went on a 10-0 run to close the frame with a 21-5 lead.
The Lions' lead stayed in double digits the remainder of the half with a 37-22 margin at the break.
"We dug ourselves into a hole in the first quarter that we couldn't get out of," UWF head coach
Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "We missed Halee's explosiveness tonight."
UWF (12-7, 7-5 Gulf South) dropped it's fifth-consecutive road game and shot just 30 percent.
Antoinette Williams joined Mulmore in double figures, finishing with a season-high 10 on 4-of-6 shooting.
Jade Davis' eight points were her third-most in a game this season.
UNA (17-2, 10-2) made 47 percent of its shots, including 11-of-27 from outside for 41 percent. The Lions also outrebounded the Argos 46-38. Emma Wallen had a game-high 26 with six 3-pointers while playing 35 minutes.
UWF will return to action on Saturday at Alabama Huntsville (11-8, 5-7). Tip off at Spragins Hall is at 2:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on the UWF Sports Network, Choice 106.9 FM and WRNE 980 AM.
