PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Argos faced their first deficit of the year going into halftime against West Alabama. The deficit was short lived though, as the Argonauts came out firing on all cylinders in the second half to end up beating the Tigers by a final score of 3-1. With tonight's victory, UWF is now a perfect 13-0 on the season.
FIRST HALF: West Alabama scored first in the match off of a header from the Gulf South Conference's Scoring leader, TeMia Pride. The goal came in the fourth minute of the game, and was the only goal in the first half.
SECOND HALF: The Freshman sensation
Peyton Peffers got the Argos on the board in the 66
th minute off of a cross from Graduate Senior
Sam Waarum that tied the game at one. Senior
Grace Busby gave UWF the late lead in the 80
th minute off of a penalty kick goal. The goal was her seventh of the season. Freshman
Kendall Bobbitt was at the right place at the right time in the 85
th minute, when she knocked the ball in after a ricochet from
Victoria Swift's header attempt. Bobbitt's goal was icing on the cake to seal the victory for the Argonauts.
OVERALL STATS: West Florida took nine corner kicks in the game, while their defense held West Alabama to just one. The Argos outshot the Tigers 20-9, and West Florida's defense allowed their opposition to get only three of those shots on goal.
NEXT UP: The Argonauts will face off against Alabama Huntsville at the UWF Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon at 12:30pm CT. The Alabama Huntsville Chargers are (3-9-2) overall and (2-6-1) in the conference. They are coming off of a 2-2 tie at Spring Hill College on Friday night.
