No. 2 UWF Stays Unbeaten with Second Half Surge

Sam Waarum’s 10th Assist of the Season Makes her GSC Leader

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Argos faced some Deja Vu in today's game against Alabama Huntsville. They let up an early goal to the Chargers, only to rally back and score three unanswered goals to defeat Alabama Huntsville by a final score of 3-1 on Sunday afternoon. It was almost the exact same scenario that played out in Friday night's win against West Alabama. UWF has now won 21 consecutive regular season games, and are 14-0 this season.

FIRST HALF: Alabama Huntsville struck first off the foot of Redshirt Junior, Alex Barnett, in the 9th minute. It was Barnett's first goal of the season. UWF tied the game up in the 27th minute, when Sophomore Jessica Quixley nailed the back of the net off of two perfect assists from Victoria Swift and Sam Waarum.

SECOND HALF: The Second Half belonged to the Argonauts, as they scored two goals to give West Florida the victory. Sam Waarum gave UWF the lead with a goal in the 57th minute that was assisted by Grace Busby. Busby put the finishing touches on the match, when she scored her eighth goal of the year in the 88th minute. Senior Victoria Swift and Freshman Sami Goffi got assists on the play.

OVERALL STATS: West Florida had eight corner kicks this afternoon and held the Chargers to just two. UWF outshot Alabama Huntsville 20-5, getting 13 of those shots on goal.

NEXT UP: The Argos will celebrate Senior Day next Sunday, when they play their last regular season home game at 12:30pm CT against Spring Hill College. The Spring Hill Badgers are (1-11-1) overall and (1-8-1) in conference play this season. The Badgers are currently thirteenth in the GSC standings.
