PENSACOLA, Fla. – West Florida scored six unanswered goals in the second half against Spring Hill College on Sunday afternoon to defeat the Badgers 7-1 on Senior Day. Freshman sensation
Peyton Peffers sparked the Argonaut Offense with two goals within five minutes of each other that gave the Argos the lead in the second half. Junior Midfielder
Grayson Sheets also scored two goals in the game that put this one out of reach for the Badgers. UWF has won 22 consecutive regular season games, and are 15-0 this season.
FIRST HALF: UWF Senior
Elizabeth Vickers wasted no time in this match, as she scored her third goal of the season just 41 seconds into the game to give the Argos the early lead. Spring Hill College answered right back in the 22
nd minute when Badger Forward, Olivia Odimegwu, scored her first goal of the year. The score at the half was 1-1.
SECOND HALF: Freshman
Peyton Peffers scored two goals early in the second half to put the Argos up two with 34 minutes left in the match. UWF Senior
Deneisha Blackwood added to the West Florida lead with a Penalty Kick Goal in the 62
nd minute. After that Junior
Grayson Sheets took over and scored her first two goals of the season to make the Argo lead, 6-1. UWF didn't let off the petal though, as Freshman
Lee Ducharme knocked in a goal in the 82
nd minute with a strike past the goalkeeper off of an assist from another freshman,
Kendall Bobbitt. The Argonauts have not allowed their opponents to score a goal in the second half in six straight games.
OVERALL STATS: UWF outshot Spring Hill College 31-4, with 15 of those shots on goal. West Florida had nine corner kicks this afternoon, while not allowing the Chargers to get a single one.
NEXT UP: The Argos will hit the road for a huge showdown on Thursday afternoon at 1pm CT against #19 Mississippi College, with the winner essentially finishing as the number one seed in the upcoming Gulf South Conference Tournament. Mississippi College is (13-1) overall, losing to Tampa University 3-1 in early September. The Choctaws have won twelve games in a row, and currently sit atop the Gulf South Conference standings with the Argos at (11-0) in conference play this season. Then UWF will finish up their regular season schedule on Saturday at noon CT when they take on (7-8-1) Delta State University.
