Hoffstatter Nets Another Hat Trick But Argos Fall In OT At Spring Hill

UWF heads to Mississippi College and Delta State next week

MOBILE, Ala. – Sean Hoffstatter netted his third hat trick of the year, but UWF men's soccer fell for the first time since Sep. 7 Saturday in Mobile. The Argos overcame a 2-1 halftime deficit before ultimately falling in overtime 5-4 to conference leader Spring Hill.

The Argos fell behind early in the match when Matthew Moreno poked one past keeper Jacob Murray to make it 1-0 4:56 after the opening whistle. Hoffstatter responded for the Argos in the game's seventh minute with a header off a corner feed from Ed Chappe to even the game at one apiece.

Spring Hill's Alexander Lipinksi converted a penalty in the 27th minute to give the Badgers a 2-1 lead that they would carry into the halftime break. SHC outshot UWF 9-8 in the opening period.

The Argos quickly got back to level ground in the second. Chappe beat Badger keeper Barou Ndaw 20 seconds into the second to make it 2-2. Barrett Mills notched the assist. Hoffstatter then scored in the 54th minute and the 56th minute to make it 4-2. Ryan Sandidge and Barrett Mills picked up assists.

The lead would not hold though as the Badgers (13-1-0, 9-0-0 GSC) clawed their way back in the game. Lipinski trimmed the Argo lead to one in the 59th minute before Moreno once again found the back of the net to make it 4-4 with less than 25 minutes to play.

The teams headed to overtime tied 4-4. The post-regulation period did not last long as Tilman Schober knocked home a goal from 35 yards out to give Spring Hill the 5-4 win.

The Badgers outshot the Argos 15-14 in regulation and 16-14 overall. Spring Hill committed 16 fouls vs. 12 for UWF. Much of the game was played under moderate and heavy rain.

Hoffstatter now sits at a GSC-best 16 goals for the season. The goal was Chappe's eighth of the year.

UWF (9-3-2, 7-1-1 GSC) will look to get back on track after suffering its first GSC loss of the season. The team takes a road trip to close the regular season at Mississippi College Oct. 25 and Delta State Oct. 27.
