Bartlinski Gets Win Number 300 As Argos Clinch GSC Regular-Season Title

Argonauts Clinch One Seed in GSC Tournament

CLINTON, Miss. – Second-ranked UWF defeated 19th-ranked Mississippi College 1-0, at Longabaugh Field Thursday afternoon to clinch the No. 1 seed in next week's Gulf South Conference Tournament. The victory marks the 15th time in 23 years of GSC soccer that the Argonauts have won at least a share of the regular-season title.

The victory was a historic one as head coach Joe Bartlinski picked up his 300th win at UWF, something only 12 other women's soccer coaches at the Division II level have accomplished. He owns an overall record of 300-49-21 at UWF and has the second-highest winning percentage all-time among D2 women's soccer coaches. Bartlinski is close to reaching 500 total wins in his career as a collegiate coach. He currently has 495 total wins.

FIRST HALF: The only goal of the game came in the 36th minute when Deneisha Blackwood sent a corner kick into the goal box. Elizabeth Vickers got ahold of the ball, and kicked it into the back of the net to give the Argos the 1-0 lead.

SECOND HALF: The second half was a back and forth battle, as both teams got multiple good looks but were unable to strike the net. MC outshot UWF 9-4 in the period and had their fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle blew.

OVERALL STATS: Each team finished with 14 shots. West Florida had five corner kicks this afternoon, while holding the Choctaws to only two.

NEXT UP: The Argos will conclude the regular-season as they continue their road trip in the state of Mississippi this weekend to take on Delta State (8-8-1, 5-7) at Noon CT on Saturday in Cleveland. The Lady Statesmen beat Spring Hill on Thursday afternoon 3-0.
