Argos Shutout the Flames to Extend Streak to Eleven

Waarum’s Early Goal was All UWF Needed

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Argos took down the Flames by a final score of 1-0 in Friday night's key Gulf South Conference matchup. This win is the seventh shutout of the year for West Florida, and is the first time that Lee University has been shut out all season. UWF is now (4-2-2) overall against the Flames and (2-1-1) when playing at the UWF Soccer Complex.

FIRST HALF: The only goal of the game came in the 22nd minute when Grace Busby got ahold of one in the goalie box, and tapped it over to Sam Waarum, who then nailed the back of the net with the ball to put the Argonauts up 1-0.

SECOND HALF: The second half was a crazy back and forth battle, as both teams got multiple good looks from inside the box. Both teams had seven shots in the second half, and had the fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle blew.

OVERALL STATS: UWF Senior Sam Waarum was busy as she took seven of the corner kicks that the Argonauts had in Friday's game. UWF had eight corner kicks and Lee only had four. West Florida outshot the Flames 16-12.

NEXT UP: The Argos will matchup with Shorter University at 3pm CT on Sunday afternoon at the UWF Soccer Complex. Shorter is (3-8) overall and (1-4) in conference play this season. The Hawks are coming off of two straight victories, where they defeated Delta State 3-2 and shutout Spring Hill College 3-0.
