PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Argos defeated the Shorter Hawks by a final score of 4-0 on Sunday afternoon. The win helped extend two impressive streaks for the Argonauts. UWF has now won 19 consecutive regular season games, and are 12-0 this season. Goalkeeper
Esthefanny Barreras and the rest of the UWF defense have now recorded eight shutouts this year.
FIRST HALF: Fresh off earning an award for National Player of the Week in Division Two, West Florida Freshman
Peyton Peffers put the Argonauts on the board in the third minute of the match with a header goal off of an assist from
Jessica Quixley. Senior
Sam Waarum had an assist on the play as well. Freshman
Sami Goffi scored her first goal of the season in the 35
th minute off of a beautiful pass from
Grace Busby to put the Argos up two.
SECOND HALF: UWF Sophomore
Hannah Wooten had a second half she'll never forget. In the 63rd minute Wooten scored her first goal of the season off a corner kick from Sam Waarum. Wooten wasn't done yet though, as she scored her second goal of the season in the 89th minute to extend the Argonaut lead to four. Victoria Swift and Grayson Sheets picked up assists on the last goal by Wooten.
OVERALL STATS: West Florida had ten corner kicks this afternoon and held the Hawks to zero. UWF outshot Shorter 20-2, and the Argos' defense didn't allow the Hawks to get a single shot on goal.
NEXT UP: The Argos will return to the UWF Soccer Complex next weekend to take on West Alabama at 5pm CT Friday night and Alabama Huntsville on Sunday at 12:30pm CT. The West Alabama Tigers are (8-3-1) overall and (6-2) in conference play this season. The Tigers are currently third in the GSC standings. Alabama Huntsville is (3-9-1) overall and (2-6) in the conference. They are coming off a 4-2 victory at Auburn-Montgomery on Sunday.
