UWF's Third Season Ends With Loss at West Alabama

The Argos finished with a winning record for the season-consecutive season

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The UWF football team saw a season that began with high expectations come to a disappointing end with a 45-7 loss to West Alabama at Tiger Stadium on Saturday.

After Nick Belz led the Argonauts on a 75-yard, 6-play scoring drive on the game's opening possession, UWF was only able to put together a handful of scoring chances in totaling 273 yards of offense.

UWF ends the season at 6-5 overall and in fourth place in the Gulf South Conference at 4-4. The Argos went 4-2 on the road and have won 12 games away from Blue Wahoos Stadium in the past two seasons. UWF averaged 5,815 fans over five home dates to rank 13th in the country entering the weekend.

On Saturday, UWA (8-3, 5-3) ran for 304 yards and finished with 497 yards of offense. Harry Satterwhite was 20-of-29 for 193 yards with three touchdowns, while Derrick Underwood rushed for 133 yards. Tyler Rogers had two scores and 77 yards.

UWF got on the board first when Kevin Grant hauled in a 29-yard touchdown pass from Belz 2:51 into the contest.

The Tigers went 3-and-out on their first possession before scoring on four-consecutive with three touchdowns and a field goal to take a 22-7 lead. They compiled a 6-plus minute drive late in the first half to take a 29-7 lead into the locker room.

UWF would get a field goal and two touchdowns in the second half to stretch its lead.

Gavin Burford led all players with 15 tackles and Martes Wheeler finished with 14 stops and a sack.

Anthony Johnson, Jr. led the Argos on the ground with 45 yards on four carries. He had a 61-yard would-be touchdown run in the first quarter called back due to a holding penalty. UWF tied its season high of 71 penalty yards. Johnson has averaged 7.1 yards per carry in three games against UWA.

Running back Chris Schwarz had 38 rushing yards to end his 3-year UWF career with 2,027 yards on the ground.

The Argos battled through injuries to key contributors almost weekly and were forced to play with a fourth-string quarterback down the stretch while still in contention for a second-consecutive playoff berth on the final day of the regular-season.
