UWF Drops 77-71 Decision at #14 North Georgia

Belle Bistrow tied her career high with 17 points

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Belle Bistrow made a career-high five 3-point field goals and Toni Brewer had a double-double but UWF fell at 14th-ranked North Georgia at the UNG Convocation Center Friday night.

Bistrow matched her career best with 17 points to lead the UWF (2-1) as the Argonauts shot 40 percent and made a season-high-tying nine 3-pointers – five from Bistrow.

Brewer had her third double-double in as many games with 16 points and 18 rebounds. Halee Nieman finished with 10 points while Anna Hall grabbed 10 boards and dished out six assists to go with her nine points.

"We faced a very good opponent tonight," UWF head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "We came out slow early in the third and gave up our lead. We battled to stay in the game but still came up a bit short. You have to make easy shots and free throws to beat good teams and we didn't do that tonight."

The Argos led 39-36 at the half before surrendering the lead as a result of a 10-1 Nighthawk run. UWF pulled to within two in the final minute of the third quarter and never was able to get any closer than five in the final 10 minutes.

UWF committed 20 turnovers that UNG scored 20 points off of, while the Argos only managed six points of 16 Nighthawk miscues.

UNG (3-0) shot 41 percent and was 10-of-14 at the free throw line. Julianne Sutton led all scorers with 21 points and added 10 rebounds. UNG got all 77 points from their starting five.

UWF won the battle of the boards for the third-consecutive game, holding a 44-38 advantage. UWF was just 10-of-17 at the foul line.

UWF will return to action on Saturday when it faces Georgia College (0-3). Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time at the UNG Convocation Center.
