UWF Rides Strong Second Half To 67-53 Win Over Georgia College

Halee Nieman scored 32 points to lead the Argos

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Senior Halee Nieman scored 32 points and UWF shot 67 percent over the final 16 minutes to pull away from Georgia College for a 67-53 win at the UNG Convocation Center Saturday.

UWF (3-1) rebounded from Friday's 6-point loss to 14th-ranked North Georgia by outscoring the Bobcats 36-22 from the midway point of the third quarter.

Much of the damage was done with a suffocating defense that saw the Argonauts record all seven of their steals in the final 11:35. Freshman Fanny Hulmi was the catalyst with all of her game-high five thefts. UWF was just as opportunistic and turned those possessions into 12 points.

Nieman posted the second 30-plus point game of her career and had 20 in the second half. She shot 12-of-18 overall and was 7-of-11 at the free throw line.

"(In the third quarter) We started to move the ball better and got more movement on offense and that opened things up for us," UWF head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "We are looking forward to coming home and getting to play our next five games in front of our outstanding fans."

The Argos' turnaround came at a point where they had made just three baskets over a 6:23 stretch and allowed the Bobcats to outscore them 15-7.

Senior Anna Hall posted her second-career double-double and her first as an Argo with 11 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.

GC (0-4) shot 31 percent and was 2-of-15 from outside, missing its final 12 attempts. Jasmine McSwain led the Bobcats with 12 points.

UWF controlled the play down low with a 52-24 rebounding margin and 36 points in the paint. 18 of their 23 2-point baskets were in the lane.

UWF will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 22 when it plays host to Spring Hill in the home opener. Tip-off for the women's-men's doubleheader at he UWF Field House is set for 5:30 p.m. The men's game will follow at 7:30 p.m.
