PENSACOLA, Fla. – UWF senior
Anna Hall recorded the second triple-double in UWF women's basketball history on Tuesday, leading the Argonauts to a 105-74 win over Spring Hill in the home opener at the UWF Field House.
Hall finished with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in 31 minutes to match Kelseigh Hughes as the only players in program history to achieve the rare feat. Hughes had 10 points, 11 boards and 10 helpers at Flagler on Dec. 19, 2011. Her triple-double is only the second in Division 2 this season. Hall also picked up seven steals which are the most in the Gulf South Conference in 2018 and the 12th-most in the UWF record book.
"I like pushing the ball in transition and everyone was finding the openings and that allowed us to score," said Hall, who transferred from Saginaw Valley State prior to this year.
In addition to Hall's night, three Argos scored at least 20 points, led by
Halee Nieman's 25.
Toni Brewer had her fourth double-double of the season with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while
Belle Bistrow posted career-highs in both points and 3-pointers made with 20 and six, respectively. Her six triples were the third-highest top total in UWF history and tied for the ninth-most in a game.
UWF (4-1) shot 54 percent from the floor and was 11-of-20 from outside. The Argos were clicking offensively all game, finishing with 24 fast break points, 22 points off 17 SHC turnovers and 38 points in the paint.
"Our fans have been itching to see us at home and to be able to give them this showing the first time out is very special," UWF head coach
Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "When this roster is clicking, some great things can happen and we can put a lot of points on the board."
The Argonauts led 34-23 after the first quarter and 56-39 at halftime. UWF scored at least 21 points in all four quarters. The 105 points marked the first time in two seasons to eclipse the 100-point plateau.
UWF will be off for eight days before returning to play next Thursday, Nov. 29 when it opens GSC play at home against Christian Brothers (2-0). Tip-off for the women's-men's doubleheader is set for 5:30 p.m.
