TOURNAMENT BRACKET
PENSACOLA, Fla. – UWF volleyball will host the Gulf South Conference tournament this weekend in the UWF Field House. The tournament will begin Friday at 4:00 p.m. and run through the championship match Sunday at 12:00 p.m. As the conference regular season champions, West Florida will have a bye through the tournament's first day and will begin play Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the day's first semifinal vs. the winner of the first round matchup between Valdosta State and Montevallo.
The Argos are coming off a 15-1 record in GSC matches and a 23-7 overall record. The tournament will also feature the second-seeded West Alabama Tigers, who have a a GSC record of 13-3 along with the No. 3 seed, Lee. The rest of the field consists of fourth-seeded Montevallo, fifth-seeded Valdosta State and sixth-seeded Alabama-Huntsville.
GSC TOURNAMENT HISTORY
* West Florida will appear in its 16th consecutive GSC Tournament, which stands as the second-longest streak in the conference.
* This will be the ninth time that the Argos will host the GSC Tournament.
* UWF is aiming for its eighth GSC Championship. West Florida collected six consecutive titles from 2008-2013.
* West Florida is 22-8 all-time in the GSC Tournament.
AGAINST THE FIELD
* West Florida went 6-1 this season against the rest of the field in this year's tournament. Four of those wins came at home and two came on the road, along with one loss on the road to Alabama-Huntsville 3-1.
* UWF is set to play the winner of Valdosta State and Montevallo in the semifinals of the GSC tournament. Against Valdosta State, the Argos have gone 2-0 with the Blazers this season winning 3-0 at home and 3-1 away. The total of the two matches between VSU, the Argos lead in kills 104-78, aces 10-6, blocks 25-17, assists 99-73 and digs 118-101 over the Blazers this season. Against Montevallo, the Argos won at home 3-0. The Argos lead in all categories over the Falcons except blocks where they tied 9-9. In this match, UWF had five aces against them with freshman Taylor Vaneekeren having three of the five.
HOME EXCELLENCE
* With an undefeated record at home against conference opponents, UWF has posted its ninth consecutive regular season without a loss to a conference opponent at the UWF Field House.
* UWF currently rides a 78-match winning streak at home against conference opponents in the regular season, dating back to its last home GSC loss on Oct. 24, 2009, against North Alabama.
ALL-GSC HONOREES
* UWF volleyball earned plenty of postseason recognition Monday as four West Florida ladies earned All-GSC honors. First team All-GSC honorees include Mackenzie Chrisman, Jordyn Poppen, and Nadine Williams. Logan Kael is a second team All-GSC honoree.
* Junior Jordyn Poppen earned first team All-GSC for her second year in a row. Poppen has enjoyed another great season that has included currently ranking 6th in kills per set in the GSC with 297 kills, 9th in hitting percentage in the GSC with .274, and 10th in points per set in the GSC scoring 321 points this season. She has had three double-doubles in kills and digs this season. Her season high match for kills was against No. 5 Western Washington, when she had 18 kills in the match.
* Senior Mackenzie Chrisman is on the first team All-GSC for her first time after an impressive senior year. Chrisman is currently No. 1 in blocks per set in the GSC and she is tenth in the nation in blocks with 1.32 blocks per set. She has recorded two double-doubles this season, her first came from the match against No. 24 Wheeling Jesuit with her 14 kills and 10 blocks and her second against Valdosta State where she recorded 11 kills and 11 blocks. Chrisman has recorded 22 solo blocks, 115 assisted blocks, and 137 total blocks tying the UWF single season blocking record with Ayana Stewart (2002) with also 137 blocks.
* Senior Nadine Williams earned her first All-GSC selection as part of the first team as well. Williams had recorded nine double-doubles on the season in digs and kills. Against Wheeling Jesuit, Williams had a season high of 20 kills along with her 13 digs for her second double-double. She is currently second on the team in kills with 283 in the regular season.
* Sophomore Logan Kael earns her first, second team All-GSC honor. Kael has recorded an unstoppable defensive season this year. She was Defensive player of the Week in week seven and is No. 5 in GSC for digs per set with 442 digs and averaging 4.25 digs per set. Kael has had double-digit digs in 22 of our 26 matches this season and has her season-high match in digs against Lee with 29 digs in a four-set match. Kael is No. 8 in GSC for aces with 35 this season showing her strengths all around the court for the Argos. Logan is currently 23 digs away from her 1,000th dig for her career.
NATIONAL/REGIONAL RANKINGS
* UWF volleyball program maintained its No. 5 position in matches through Oct. 28th in the NCAA Division II South Region Rankings. The updated ranking will come out tomorrow, Wednesday November 7th.
* UWF is 26-6 on the season and is ranked 20th in the AVCA DII Top-25 poll.
CHRISMAN PURSUES BLOCKING RECORD
* Chrisman transferred from Chadron State last year as a junior and only played in 17 matches for the Argos. She recorded a total of 29 total blocks on the year, with 6 solo blocks and this year is an entirely different story for the Colorado native. Senior Mackenzie Chrisman has recorded 22 solo blocks, 115 assisted blocks, and 137 total blocks tying the UWF single-season blocking record with Ayana Stewart (2002) with also 137 blocks. With one more guaranteed match to play, and hopefully several more if UWF continues to win, Chrisman will surely break the record before the season end.

ARGOS TIE TEAM MATCH HIGH DIG RECORD
* 2018 will prove to be one of the most efficient defensive seasons for digs and blocks. The squad currently is No. 7 in the nation in blocks per set with 2.56 AVG/S and No. 4 in the nation for total blocks with 65 solo, 433 assisted making a total of 281.5 for team blocks. In the GSC, UWF is first in Blocks and fourth in Digs with 1,781 digs averaging 16.19 Digs per set. The Argos highest digging match was against Lee on October 5, 2018 where the Argos had a total of 114 digs in the match. UWF also has the top three game highs in the GSC in blocks. The first game high is against Wheeling Jesuit with 17 blocks, second was at Valdosta State with 17 blocks again, and third was at West Alabama where the Argos recorded 15 team blocks.
