Halee Nieman scored 20 points to lead four players in double figures as UWF defeated Albany State, 72-43, in the season opener at The Complex Friday.

UWF shot 43 percent from the floor and made nine 3-pointers in defeating ASU for the third-consecutive year and sixth time in seven meetings. It was also the fourth win in the last five season openers for the Argonauts.

Along with Nieman, who shot 6-of-9 overall and 3-of-5 from outside, freshman
Fanny Hulmi had 12 points and 10 rebounds, senior
Belle Bistrow finished with 11 points on three triples and four assists, and senior
Toni Brewer added 10 points and 11 boards.

Anna Hall made a solid debut with seven points, seven rebounds and six assists.

"We concentrated (this week) on playing our defensive principles and wanted to stay disciplined throughout the game with those and that effort showed tonight," UWF head coach
Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said after her team held the Rams to 23 percent shooting.

The Argos also capitalized on 14 ASU turnovers and scored 22 points with six on the fast break.

In addition to Hall's exploits dishing the ball, five other players had at least one helper as UWF totaled 18 assists on 24 field goals.

UWF closed the first half on a 16-3 run for a 29-17 lead at the break. The Argos came out and continued to put the pressure on, putting together a 15-2 stretch in the first 4:30 of the third quarter.
