ATLANTA, Ga. – UWF men's basketball dropped its final game at the Arthur J. McAfee Memorial Classic Sunday, falling to Lane College 65-62.
Jon Brown scored 14 points in the loss, while
Rashaan Benson and
Jarrett Henderson each netted 13. The Argonauts will conclude their pre-Christmas schedule with a road trip to Alabama Huntsville and Lee University Dec. 15 and 17.
UWF led 29-22 at half after closing the first on a 22-10 run. Brown netted 10 of his points in the opening period. He shot 3-of-5 from the field and 3-of-4 from the line in the first 20 minutes.
The Dragons (7-3, 2-0 SIAC) opened the second with a 22-13 rally to open a 44-42 lead. The Dragons were led by Kendarius Ash, who recorded 19 points. Daniel Hill (16) and Lew Johnson (10) also scored in double figures. Ash also registered 18 rebounds, three blocks and three steals in the game.
The Argos (3-6, 0-2 GSC) held Lane to 9-of-29 (.310) shooting from the field in the first before the Dragons rebounded to shoot 18-of-34 (.529) in the second. The Argonauts battled to within 58-57 with 2:39 to play before 7-1 Dragons run essentially decided the game.
A layup by Benson brought the Argos to within 65-62 with 13 seconds to go, but a final three attempt with two seconds to play by
Brett Carter Jr. missed the mark.
The Argonauts will head to Alabama Huntsville Dec. 15 for a 4:00 p.m. GSC tip vs. the Chargers. The team travels to meet the Flames Dec. 17 at 7:00 p.m.
