UWF Falls To Lee, 48-46, On Late Basket

Imani Mulmore led the Argos with 16 points


PENSACOLA, Fla. – Abby Bertram made a jumper with three seconds left to lift visiting Lee to a 48-46 win over UWF in women's basketball action at the UWF Field House Thursday night.
 
Bertram had previously given the Lady Flames a 46-43 lead on a 3-pointer with 2:34 remaining. The Argonauts cut it to one on a Halee Nieman driving layup before tieing it when Imani Mulmore made 1-of-2 free throws with just over a minute to play.
 
Both teams went scoreless on their next possessions before Lee had the ball with 30 tics remaining to setup their game-winning play. UWF was unable to get a shot off on its final possession.
 
UWF (13-8, 8-6 Gulf South) was led by Mulmore's 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Nieman finished with eight and Chloe Branch had six points and four rebounds. Courtney Meyer led all players with 13 rebounds and four blocks.
 
The Argos shot 39 percent and were 5-of-12 from 3-point range, including 4-of-8 in the first half.
 
Lee (18-4, 11-3) shot 39 percent overall and 44 percent from outside on 8-of-18. Bertram's 22 points, six rebounds and four assists were all team highs. Erin Walsh and Lindsey Roddy had six each. The Lady Flames held a 17-14 edge in points off turnovers.
 
The game featured 12 lead changes and nine ties. Neither team led by more than five points.
 
Lee led 16-14 late in the first before a 7-0 UWF run put the home squad up 21-16. The stretch was keyed by a 3-pointer and buzzer-beating layup from Mulmore to end the first, before Meyer hit a long jumper to start the second. The Argos led by five late in the second before taking a 29-26 advantage into the locker room.
 
The Lady Flames came out of the break and went on a 10-2 run for a 36-31 edge, before UWF rattled off eight-consecutive for a 39-36 lead. Lee won the fourth quarter with a 9-5 margin.
 
UWF will face Shorter (5-15, 3-11) on Saturday afternoon. The doubleheader at the UWF Field House is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. and the game will be Cancer Awareness Day, with all cancer survivors being granted free admission. The first 250 fans to the women's game and the 4:00 p.m. men's game will be give a free t-shirt. Both games will be broadcast on the UWF Sports Network, Choice 106.9 FM and WRNE 980 AM.
