Meyer's Double-Double Powers UWF Past Shorter

UWF shot a season-high 59 percent fro the floor

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Senior Courtney Meyer had 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead the UWF women's basketball team past Shorter, 79-43, at the UWF Field House on Saturday.

For Meyer, it was her team-leading eighth double-double this season. Her point total was the second-most in her career and the highest since a 23-point effort as a sophomore two years ago.

Her perfect 8-for-8 shooting helped UWF (14-8, 9-6 Gulf South) record a season-high 59 percent in winning its fourth-straight over the Hawks.

Junior Belle Bistrow had 15 points and five assists, while classmate Halee Nieman added 11 points and seven boards. Senior Jade Davis posted her second-highest assist total of the year with six helpers. As a team, the Argonauts had a season-best 26 assists on 34 field goals.

All 11 players scored for UWF and played at least five minutes.

With the score knotted at 8-8 late in the first quarter, UWF went on an 8-0 run to take control of the game. The Hawks never got closer than five points and faced a 29-19 deficit at halftime.

After a Shorter basket to open the second half, UWF rattled off nine-consecutive points for a 39-21 lead. The margin fluctuated between 28 and the final margin of 36 the entire fourth quarter.

Shorter (5-16, 3-12) got 13 points from Roni Richardson off the bench for its only double-figure scorer. The Hawks made a season-low 14 field goals and shot a season-worst 24 percent.

UWF held a 45-29 rebounding edge and a 50-16 points in the paint advantage.

The Argonauts now face a five-game stretch to end the regular season with four on the road. That begins with a 3-game road swing starting on Thursday night when they travel to Auburn-Montgomery (8-14, 4-11) for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
