MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The UWF women's basketball team used a balanced offensive attack and got a strong defensive effort to claim a 68-45 win over Auburn-Montgomery at the AUM Gymnasium Thursday night.
The Argos made four of their first five 3-point attempts and never slowed down, racing out to a 16-2 lead midway through the first quarter.
Junior
Belle Bistrow had a game-high 12 points as she made four triples, marking the fourth game this season she has made at least that many.
Halee Nieman finished with 11 points, while
Jade Davis,
Shami Goodman and
Chloe Branch each had nine.
Courtney Meyer grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with eight points.
UWF (15-8, 10-6 Gulf South) shot 49 percent in the game and was especially efficient in the second frame, making 6-of-10 to stake a 35-25 lead at the half. The Argos were 8-of-11 during an 8-minute stretch in the final quarter where they outscored the Warhawks 21-6.
The Argonauts held a 45-27 rebounding advantage and assisted on 19 of their 25 baskets, with Davis collecting eight.
AUM (8-15, 4-12) shot just 27 percent – their fourth-worst this season – and was 7-of-28 from outside for 25 percent. In the first meeting three weeks ago, the Warhawks managed just 36 percent shooting.
Shanna Strain led the Warhawks with nine points.
UWF will head on to Carrollton, Georgia for a Saturday afternoon contest at West Georgia (13-10, 9-7). The game will begin at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time and will be broadcast on the UWF Sports Network, Choice 106.9 FM and WRNE 980 AM.
