UWF Uses Balanced Attack To Sail Past Warhawks, 68-45

Six players scored at least eight points in the victory

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The UWF women's basketball team used a balanced offensive attack and got a strong defensive effort to claim a 68-45 win over Auburn-Montgomery at the AUM Gymnasium Thursday night.

The Argos made four of their first five 3-point attempts and never slowed down, racing out to a 16-2 lead midway through the first quarter.

Junior Belle Bistrow had a game-high 12 points as she made four triples, marking the fourth game this season she has made at least that many. Halee Nieman finished with 11 points, while Jade Davis, Shami Goodman and Chloe Branch each had nine. Courtney Meyer grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with eight points.

UWF (15-8, 10-6 Gulf South) shot 49 percent in the game and was especially efficient in the second frame, making 6-of-10 to stake a 35-25 lead at the half. The Argos were 8-of-11 during an 8-minute stretch in the final quarter where they outscored the Warhawks 21-6.

The Argonauts held a 45-27 rebounding advantage and assisted on 19 of their 25 baskets, with Davis collecting eight.

AUM (8-15, 4-12) shot just 27 percent – their fourth-worst this season – and was 7-of-28 from outside for 25 percent. In the first meeting three weeks ago, the Warhawks managed just 36 percent shooting.

Shanna Strain led the Warhawks with nine points.
