PENSACOLA, Fla.- The newly ranked No. 2 West Florida Women's Tennis (15-0) stretches their record to a 15 match-winning streak after taking down No. 39 Georgia College (7-5) by only dropping a single match at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.
This team is making history for the University of West Florida as this is the first time that the women's program has reached as high as No. 2 in a national ranking.
To get the day started, No. 4 duo Jordana Lujan and Paula Coyos raced past Kelly and Lopez 8-3 on court one to add a point for the Argos. The second point went in the Bobcats' favor as Richter and Jones overcame Heather Mixon and Samantha Echevarria on court two. On court three, Ines Nicault and Diana Vlad found themselves down a break late at 6-7 in their pro set to 8. This fearless duo cut off several volleys and blasted down the line winners to narrowly edge Garriga and Niemi 9-7.
There was no messing around for the No. 2 Argos as they entered into the singles competition. Nicault increased her record to 11 wins after capturing the third point on court two after defeating Lopez 6-3, 6-2. Louisiana native Mixon also maintains a perfect 15-0 record after downing Garriga 6-2, 6-2 on court five. For the knockout win, Senior No. 5 Coyos dismantled No. 20 Kelly by only dropping a total of three games. All remaining matches were halted after the Argos' victory.
A busy schedule awaits UWF with their next home match taking place tomorrow at 9:30am against No. 42 Arkansas Tech University.
