#5 Argos Power Past Nova Southeastern to Give Racine His 900th Win at UWF

UWF will face two top-15 teams this weekend in La Jolla, California

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 5 UWF women's tennis team used some strong singles play to overcome an early deficit and defeat Nova Southeastern, 7-2, at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex on Thursday.

UWF remained perfect in ten matches overall while winning its second-consecutive home contest. It also marked the 900th combined women's and men's win at UWF for head coach Derrick Racine. He now has 1,053 career coaching victories in 23-plus years at both UWF and the University of Mobile.

The Argonauts went up 1-0 to start doubles play with an NSU injury at the No. 3 spot. The Sharks came out aggressive in the pairs, claiming wins at the other two spots for a 2-1 lead.

In singles play, the previous injury gave a point to UWF at the No. 6 position, knotting the match at 2-2. From there, it was all UWF.

The Argos got two team points in the middle of the lineup with Diana Vlad and Jordana Lujan taking care of business. Vlad, ranked No. 34 in the country, won her match at No. 4, 6-2, 6-1, over Alexandra Yeardley while Lujan flip-flopped set scores with Vlad, claiming a 6-1, 6-2, win at the three spot over Daniela Obando.

Ines Nicault officially clinched the match for the home squad, getting a 7-5, 6-1, win at No. 2 over Andrea Ivanovic.

In the most intense match of the day, 11th-ranked Paula Coyos defeated Ana Navas, 2-6, 6-3, 10-7, at the top spot before Heather Mixon closed out the competition with a hard-fought 6-2, 6-4, victory over Isabella Lowrey at No. 5.

NSU fell to 3-6 on the season.

The Argonauts will hit the road for a pair of matches this weekend in La Jolla, Calif. UWF will face No. 4 Hawaii Pacific on Saturday and No. 14 UC San Diego on Sunday.
