No. 15 UWF Going to Tallahassee for Matchup with Florida Southern

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The 15th-ranked University of West Florida softball team will make a trip to Tallahassee, Florida, on Tuesday afternoon for a neutral-site doubleheader against Florida Southern on the campus of Tallahassee Community College.

About Florida Southern
* Florida Southern enters the doubleheader with a 24-19 overall record and a 10-17 mark in the Sunshine State Conference, standing ninth in the league. The Mocs are an impressive 18-7 at home this season but are 6-12 on the road, and this will be the team's first neutral-site game.
* Senior outfielder Shannon Bell has led FSC offensively, hitting .421 and slugging .564 with three doubles, five triples and a pair of home runs.
* FSC ranks sixth in the Sunshine State Conference with a 2.38 team ERA and is fourth with 10 team shutouts. Kristen Beacham's 1.59 ERA leads the team, and she has struck out 64 batters with an 8-3 record and 83.2 innings pitched.
* UWF and Florida Southern have met just five teams since 2007, with FSC holding a 3-2 advantage in the series. The last matchup was in 2015 in Clearwater, Florida, when Florida Southern won 6-3.
 
A Look at Last Week
* UWF went 2-3 from last Monday to Sunday, hitting .293 as a team with wins over Montevallo and Spring Hill.
* Tori Perkins hit .556 (5-9) with two home runs, two doubles, 13 total bases and a 1.444 slugging percentage. She also posted a 1.05 ERA over 6.2 innings, while allowing just one hit and holding opponents to a .048 batting average.
* Jibrasha Moore had a team-best six hits and she and Meghan Toney each stole three bases.
 
On the Road
* West Florida has a 17-12 record away from the UWF Softball Complex this season, with an even 4-4 record in neutral site games and a 13-8 mark in pure road contests.
Rachel Wright and Meghan Toney lead UWF with 28 hits in those games, with Wright hitting 11 doubles, a triple and a home run. Grace Gilbert has led UWF with a .364 batting average and a 2.18 ERA away from home, throwing five complete games and 54.2 innings.
* UWF has posted a 2.68 ERA while averaging more than four runs per game away from home.

Facing the Sunshine State Conference
* Florida Southern will be the seventh Sunshine State Conference team UWF has faced this year, and the Argos are 6-3 in those nine games leading into Tuesday's doubleheader. Meghan Toney has led all players with 10 hits and 5 stolen bases in those games, and Tori Perkins has hit .333 with a pair of doubles and 9 RBIs.
* The UWF pitching staff has recorded a 1.23 ERA over 62.2 innings with 43 strikeouts. Sarah Maloney has struck out 19 batters in 17.2 innings with a 0.40 ERA in those games, and Olivia Printiss has thrown seven scoreless innings.
* West Florida has outscored SSC teams 37-21 and outslugged its opponents .349 to .292.

Down the Stretch
* West Florida follows the Florida Southern doubleheader with a three-game series against Valdosta State at the UWF Softball Complex to wrap up the regular season. The two teams have combined for a 60-28 record (.682) this year.
* The Argonauts were outstanding in April 2016 and 2017, going a combined 27-8. Rachel Wright has hit .369 in April in her two years, with eight doubles, six home runs and 34 RBIs. Likewise, Sarah Maloney has thrown extremely well in April over the last two seasons, pitching 42.2 innings and posting a 2.32 ERA with 32 strikeouts.
