Hoffstatter's Hat Trick Helps Argos Handle Bucs

Early second half surge nets UWF second conference win

BOX SCORE

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Sean Hoffstatter netted a hat trick to power a 4-1 win over Christian Brothers for the UWF men's soccer team Sunday at the UWF Soccer Complex. The win was the third straight for the Argos and pushed the team to 2-0 in conference play this season.

"To see him have a breakout weekend like this, I couldn't be happier," UWF head coach Bill Elliott said of Hoffstatter's performance. "If there's anyone I'd want it to happen for, it's definitely him."

Hoffstatter, whose playing time in the preseason and early part of the 2018 schedule was curbed due to injury, broke out with three goals from in less than 12 minutes out of the halftime break. The Argos (3-2-1, 2-0 GSC) led 1-0 when he got a steal deep in the CBU end in the game's 49th minute, beating keeper Viktor Hoestbo for his third goal of the season.

The junior from Fort Walton Beach added a penalty in the 59th minute after being clipped down in the box. He followed less than two minutes later on a header off a Barrett Mills corner to complete the hat trick.

"To come out here and score three goals, obviously I couldn't do it without my team," said Hoffstatter, who was limited by knee injuries over the first two years of his UWF career. "It feels great. I hope to keep going and score as many as I can from here."

The outburst followed an early goal by Ed Chappe. The redshirt sophomore gave the Argos the lead in the 27th minute on a perfectly placed restart boot just outside the CBU box into the side of the net. The goal was the first of the season for the Reading, England native.

A late goal by Luiz Dutra spoiled the shutout effort by keeper Jacob Murray and the UWF defense. Murray remained mostly untested in the game, facing just three shots. Hoestbo allowed four goals on five shots before being replaced in the game's final minutes. The loss was the fourth straight to start the season for CBU (0-4-0, 0-1 GSC), which faced a pair of top-10 teams to start the season before having a game vs. Spring Hill postponed last Friday.

Hoffstatter's hat trick was the first by a UWF player since Erick Rivera netted three Oct. 27, 2016 vs. Auburn Montgomery.

UWF returns to action vs. Pensacola Christian (0-7) Friday at 7:30 at the UWF Soccer Complex. A live stream of the match will be available at goargos.com/live.
