UWF Falls To Flagler, 2-1

UWF will open its home schedule this Friday night against Rollins

SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The UWF men's soccer team allowed two goals in a 6-minute span late in the second half of a 2-1 loss to Flagler at Saints Field on Sunday.

UWF (0-1-1) controlled the time of possession and outshot Flagler (1-1-0) 14-8. The Argos also had a 13-1 edge in corner kicks, but it was the one opportunity for the Saints in the 78th minute that led to their first score.

Flagler's Kyle Doherty's initial ball into the box was cleared to the sideline but Doherty gathered it and put it on goal a few yards off the line where Kairon Matthews got a head on it and past UWF goalkeeper Jacob Murray.

The Saints got an insurance goal six minutes later when Tryggvi Magnusson put a penalty kick into the corner for a 2-0 lead.

UWF got its first goal of the year in the final minute as Isaiah Lopez headed home a Rafael Godoi service from the corner kick spot. The Argos put the ball into the attacking third two more times but were unable to get the tying score.

Murray made two saves in the contest, while Flagler's keepers – Iwan Roberts and Mel Broughton – combined to stop four Argo attempts.

Hakeem Reid had six shots to lead the UWF attack.

UWF will return to the UWF Soccer Complex for its home-openers this weekend, facing Rollins (2-0-0) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saint Leo on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
