Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

No.11 UWF Starts Out The Argo Bash Undefeated

The Argos Now On A Five Game Winning Streak With Today's W's

PENSACOLA, Fla.- The 11th ranked UWF volleyball (7-3 overall) finished day one of The Argo Bash undefeated, 2-0. This well-rounded team came into this first day on a three game winning streak and with a dominant offense to take wins over Spring Hill College (4-2 overall) and Harding University (4-6 overall) only losing a single set.

MATCH ONE: No.11 UWF3, SHC1

No.11 West Florida's opening game was against the Spring Hill College Badgers where the Argos dominated offensively and defensively taking three sets in a row 25-17, 25-13, and 25-18. Spring Hill kept fighting every set, but in the end, it was the Argos who came out on top with disciplined volleyball.

UWF has a well rounded team and a team that is not to be overlooked as Assistant Coach for UWF Patricia Gandolfo explained about the team dynamic this year. "We like players that play more than one position, so in practice you can see some players playing outside then right side then back row. Having the depth and knowing that anybody from the bench can come on the court and get the job done mean a lot to us."

Nadine Williams had a powerful offensive match leading the team with 12 kills on 23 attempts with no errors. Williams also led defensively with 14 digs and three block assists. Jordyn Poppen and Sadie Hough also were strong offensively with Poppen with 10 kills on 23 attempts and one error and Hough having six kills on 14 attempts and one error. In the second set, as a team, UWF's hitting percentage was .500 with no attacking errors for the entire set.

MATCH TWO: No.11 UWF3, HU1

West Florida Argonauts volleyball team battle against the Harding Lady Bison where the Argos prevailed in the end 3-1 overall. The Argos took the first two sets 25-20 both times where their offensive and power-hitters were unstoppable. The Argos persistence and grit was obvious in the second set where the game was tied all the way till the last five points. In the third set, the Lady Bison were not allowing any balls to fall where they won 25-18. Fourth set was the Argos from the first five points where they were up 5-0 to start and then eventually jumped to a 11 point lead and finally won 25-18.

"We learn to fight consistently and constantly on every rally," Patricia Gandolfo added. "It's not like you can take a play off and especially on the long rallies you have to go all out or you will not get that point."

Mackenzie Chrisman owned the net with 11 kills on 19 attempts with one error showing her consistency hitting a .526. Makila York had some ground shaking kills as well this match with 11 kills on 27 attempts and three errors. The Argo offense is very powerful and Nadine Williams shares hows the offense is so strong.

"Having so many power hitters makes our job a lot easier because the blockers don't know where to go or who to focus on when we are all on and it creates a lot of seams which makes us look a lot better, so it's awesome."

Brogan Wallin and Taylor Vaneekeren had a combined total of 51 total assists and no ball handling errors. Logan Kael had the team high for digs with 18 and tied with 10 behind her was Williams and Vaneekeren.
