CLINTON, Miss.–
Anna Hall recorded a triple-double and four players reached double figures as UWF defeated Mississippi College 87-70 at A.E Wood Coliseum Saturday afternoon.
UWF (11-4, 5-3 Gulf South) bounced back from Thursday's loss at Delta State to defeat the Lady Choctaws for the seventh time in the last eight meetings.
And they did it with one of the top offensive efforts of the season.
UWF had scoring runs of 8-0, 15-0 and 9-2. The 15-0 run early in the third quarter was the back-breaker as the Argos turned a 2-margin into a 62-45 lead with 3:07 left in the frame.
From there, it was fairly smooth as UWF led by as many as 23 but never fewer than the final margin of 17.
"I was proud of the bounce back we showed today," UWF head coach
Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "The team executed the game plan to near perfect and that allowed me to make offensive adjustments that resulted in the win."
The Argos shot 58 percent for the game and 62 percent in the second half. The team continued to thrive inside, scoring 46 points in the paint and holding a 44-25 rebounding advantage.
Hall finished with 12 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists for her third triple-double of the season. She also had three of the team's seven steals. Only Sabrina Ionescu of Oregon with five triple-doubles has more than the UWF senior in all of NCAA women's basketball.
Toni Brewer recorded her 11th double-double of the season with 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting and 10 rebounds. She was 5-of-5 at the foul line to extend her streak of consecutive makes to 11.
Halee Nieman was 11-of-14 from the floor and totaled a game-high 24 points, while
Belle Bistrow scored a career-high 21 points.
MC (5-18, 1-6) shot 41 percent and was just 6-of-22 from outside. Zariah Matthews led the Lady Choctaws with 19 points.
The Argos got out to an early 9-2 lead and then used an 8-0 run to extend it to 18-6 midway through the opening period. The Lady Choctaws got hot from outside and tied the game at 28 on a pair of 3-pointers before taking their first lead of the game on another triple with 4:59 to play in the half. UWF scored six of the final eight points to claim a 43-39 lead going into the half.
After playing three of their last four on the road, UWF will return home for four of their next five, beginning Thursday night for a 'White Out Night' against Shorter. The game will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the UWF Field House.
