LIVINGSTON, Ala.–
Halee Nieman scored 27 points and the UWF women's basketball team played some of its best defense of the year after halftime for a 76-56 win over West Alabama at Pruitt Hall Thursday.
UWF outscored UWA 29-15 in the third quarter to create some distance before holding the Tigers to eight points in the final period for the win.
For UWF (14-4, 8-3 Gulf South), it was the team's fourth-consecutive, matching its season best. The Argonauts shot 47 percent and made nine 3-pointers.
But it was the season-high 15 steals that helped create the momentum in the third quarter. UWF scored 30 points off 26 Tiger turnovers, including nine in the pivotal third.
Nieman had a team-high nine rebounds and collected a career-high five steals.
Senior
Toni Brewer finished with 19 points and moved into third place on the UWF career scoring list. She now has 1,461 points and sits 11 behind Erin Vierling in second.
Senior
Anna Hall ended the game with 13 points, seven assists, six rebounds and three steals. Her single-season assist total moved to 131 and saw her crack the Argo top 10 in that category.
Fellow senior
Belle Bistrow made three of her four 3-pointers in the first quarter before ending the night with 12 points. She has now connected on 133 from outside in her career to move into third place on the UWF chart.
UWA (7-11, 4-7) shot 42 percent in the game but just 35 percent in the second half. The Tigers did outrebound the Argos 35-33.
UWF will return home for a pair of games at the UWF Field House next week, beginning Monday with Auburn-Montgomery for Superhero Night at 5:30 p.m.
