ROME, Ga. –The UWF Women's Soccer Team shutout Gulf South Conference opponent Shorter by a final score of 2-0 on Friday night to begin their road trip. This is West Florida's fourth straight shutout performance and seventh shutout of the year. The win for the Argos sets up an exciting match against Lee which will feature two, two loss teams on Sunday afternoon in Cleveland, Tennessee.
FIRST HALF: The Argos struck first in the match, when
Annie Rolf scored in the 6
th minute off an assist from
Peyton Peffers. Peffers scored a goal of her own in the 29
th minute with a strike that hit the top right of the net to extend the Argos' lead to two. West Florida outshot Shorter 17-0 and had nine corner kicks in the first half.
SECOND HALF: The second half was all defense as both teams were held scoreless. West Florida outshot Shorter 7-1 and had one corner kick in the second half.
OVERALL STATS: UWF outshot Shorter 24-1. West Florida totaled 10 total corner kicks in tonight's game, and held the Hawks to none.
NEXT UP: The Argonauts will continue their weekend road trip by heading to Cleveland, Tennessee on Sunday to take on Lee University at the Lee Soccer Field at 1:00 pm ET. The Lee Flames are (6-2) overall and will play Spring Hill later tonight. Lee will be going into the match ranked number 18 according to the United Soccer Coaches poll this week. UWF is (4-3-2) all-time against Lee, and is 2-1 when facing them at the Lee Soccer Field.
